I've never suffered from constipation in my entire life until now. It is awful. If someone else has had this happen plz share what you did for relief. I've experienced great improvements with this med & would hate to stop using it. Thank you.
Does Abilify cause severe constipation even at a low dose of 2-5mg daily?

Yes, 2 mg has caused severe constipation for me. Nothing works. Not even stool softeners. I am going to stop taking them.
Hi, Siren!
Just don't stop cold turkey:
"You should not stop using Abilify suddenly. Stopping suddenly may make your condition worse."
Let your doctor know if you haven't already.
Lots of water, lots of fiber, exercise and take a stool softener like colace every day. If you still have trouble you can use peri colace, which has a laxative in it. This has been my life for many years. Most medications that effect the brain cause constipation.
Thank you Kaismama. Im so sorry to hear you've had to deal with this long term. It's awful & I can not imagine dealing with this for much longer. I drink about a gallon of water & eat a Fiberall chew daily & have started using Metamucil since this began with no results. Is it ok to use the colace with these or should I use it alone? I appreciate your help. Thanx again.
For Extreme relief you can use a glycerin suppository.
Thank you Fibromom
I started Abilify a week ago and have been constipated since. I asked the pharmacist today and she said you can use stool softeners as much as you need/want because your body will not become dependent on them. Your body will become dependent with laxatives. Hope that helps and hope you feel better.
