I have been on birth control for 3 months now.
I am 8 days late on my period with a negative pregnancy test?

If you have taken your pills at the same time every day, and haven't missed any there is less then a 1% chance of pregnancy. The pill decreases the amount of uterine lining and this makes for a lighter period and sometimes you can even skip one. Urine pregnancy tests can give a false negative if-the test is outdated, its done less then a week after your period was due or you used other then the first void (pee) of the day.
You will need to use the first urine in the morning for the best result but the Dr is absolutely right.. In case you are pregnant you don't want to continue using birth control
Don't panic sometimes this can happen a couple of months of birth control
Periods can be delayed or missed for reasons other than pregnancy.
Also a urine pregnancy test might take 2-3 weeks to become positive.
Please contact your doctor who can perform a blood test to determine pregnancy.
This should be performed as soon as possible as if you are pregnant the fetus should not be exposed to birth control hormones.
