What is Skinvive by Juvéderm?
Skinvive by Juvéderm is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler used to improve skin smoothness of the cheeks, it is given by intradermal microdroplet injection. Skinvive by Juvéderm injection has been FDA-approved for patients 21 years and older, and clinical trials participants were from every Fitzpatrick Skin Type (I-VI), from the lightest to the darkest. Skinvive by Juvéderm also contains the local anesthetic lidocaine for a more comfortable injection as this numbs the treatment area within seconds.
Dermal filler injections are a nonsurgical cosmetic procedure used to plump up wrinkles, smooth lines, and restore volume in your face. A dermal filler is injected under your skin by healthcare professionals who have had appropriate training, experience, and who are knowledgeable about the anatomy of the site being treated.
Who should not use Skinvive by Juvéderm
Skinvive should not be use in patients with
- severe allergies with a history of anaphylaxis or if the patient has multiple severe allergies.
- patients with a history of allergies to gram-positive bacterial proteins as Skinvive contains trace amounts of these materials
- patients with a history of allergies to lidocaine.
Skinvive is FDA-approved for patients over the age of 21.
Treatment with Skinvive should be deferred if the site to be treated is inflamed or if there are skin eruptions such as cysts, pimples, rashes, or hives.
What should I tell my doctor before receiving Skinvive by Juvéderm
Tell your healthcare professional if you:
- are susceptible to keloid formation, hypertrophic scarring, or pigmentation disorders, as the safety Of Skinvive has not been studied in these patients.
- are on immunosuppressive therapy
- are using substances that can increase or prolong bleeding (such as aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and warfarin).
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
The safety for use during pregnancy and in breastfeeding females has not been established.
How will I receive Skinvive by Juvéderm?
Skinvive by Juvéderm will be given as an intradermal microdroplet injection by a fully trained healthcare provider. Microdroplet injections are a very small volume of gel (0.01 mL to 0.05 mL) that are spaced approximately 0.5 cm to 1 cm apart; however, placement and volume will vary based on the patient’s treatment goals.
Dosing information
The typical volume to achieve optimal improvement in skin smoothness of the cheeks is 4.0 mL.
Injection volumes after repeat treatment tended to be lower, with the typical injection volume to maintain optimal effect being 2.7 mL.
What should I avoid while receiving Skinvive by Juvéderm?
Avoid applying makeup for 12 hours after treatment, and within the first 24 hours, patients should avoid strenuous exercise, extensive sun or heat exposure, and alcoholic beverages. Exposure to any of the above may cause temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching at the injection sites.
What are the other Juvéderm products?
The Juvéderm range of products are designed to meet specific needs depending on the area of the face being treated and increase in the volume required.
Juvederm XC products also contain the local anesthetic lidocaine for a more comfortable injection as this numbs the treatment area within seconds. The Juvederm Ultra XC products contain more highly cross-linked formulations for volumizing and correction of deeper folds and wrinkles.
- Juvederm Voluma® XC is used for deep injection in the cheek area to correct age-related volume loss and for augmentation of the chin region to improve the chin profile.
- Juvederm Vollure™ XC is used for injection into the facial tissue for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds.
- Juvederm ® Ultra Plus XC is used for injection into the facial tissue for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds.
- Juvederm® Ultra XC is used for injection into the facial tissue for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds. It is also used for injection into the lips and perioral area for lip augmentation.
- Juvederm® XC Is suitable for moderate or severe facial folds or wrinkles, such as the fold that runs from your nose to mouth (parentheses lines).
- Juvederm Volbella® XC is used for injection into the lips for lip augmentation and correction of perioral lines and for injection into the under-eye hollows to improve the appearance of under-eye hollows.
- Juvederm Volux XC injectable gel is used for deep injection to improve moderate to a severe loss of jawline definition in adults over the age of 21.
What are the side effects of Skinvive?
Skinvive Injection site side effects include:
- lumps or bumps
- swelling
- redness
- bruising
- pain
- tenderness
- firmness
- itching
- injection site injury
- discoloration of injection site
Injection site responses consist mainly of short-term inflammatory symptoms and generally resolve within 1 week
Serious side effects.
Skinvive must not be injected into blood vessels as this may lead to embolization, occlusion of the vessels, ischemia, or infarction. If this occurs rare but serious adverse events can occur and have been reported. These include temporary or permanent vision impairment, blindness, cerebral ischemia or cerebral hemorrhage leading to stroke, skin necrosis, and damage to underlying facial structures. Immediately stop the injection if a patient exhibits any of the following symptoms, including changes in vision, signs of a stroke, blanching of the skin, or unusual pain during or shortly after the procedure. Patients should receive prompt medical attention and possibly evaluation by an appropriate health care professional specialist should an intravascular injection occur.

- Store at room temperature (up to 25°C/77°F).
- Do not freeze.
Ingredients
Skinvive by Juvéderm contains hyaluronic acid (HA) produced by Streptococcus species of bacteria crosslinked with 1,4-butanediol diglycidyl (BDDE) formulated to a concentration of 12 mg/mL with 0.3% w/w lidocaine in a physiologic buffer.
