Drug Interaction Report
2 potential interactions and/or warnings found for the following 2 drugs:
- chloramphenicol otic
- Danziten (nilotinib)
Interactions between your drugs
chloramphenicol otic nilotinib
Applies to: chloramphenicol otic, Danziten (nilotinib)
After using chloramphenicol otic, some of the medication may be absorbed into the bloodstream and may increase the risk of side effects that affect your bone marrow function, resulting in low numbers of different types of blood cells. Using chloramphenicol otic together with nilotinib may further increase those risks. You may be more likely to develop anemia, bleeding problems or infections due to low blood cell counts. Although serious side effects are not very common with medications administered to the eyes, ears, or vagina because only limited amounts of the medication generally get absorbed into the bloodstream, they can sometimes occur. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact, or you may need more frequent monitoring to safely use both medications. You should seek medical attention if you develop paleness, fatigue, dizziness, fainting, unusual bruising or bleeding, fever, chills, diarrhea, sore throat, muscle aches, shortness of breath, blood in phlegm, weight loss, red or inflamed skin, body sores, and pain or burning during urination. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Drug and food interactions
nilotinib food
Applies to: Danziten (nilotinib)
Do not consume grapefruit or grapefruit juice during treatment with nilotinib unless directed otherwise by your doctor. Grapefruit juice can increase the blood levels of nilotinib to dangerous levels, increasing the risk of an irregular heart rhythm that may be serious. You should seek immediate medical attention if you develop sudden dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, shortness of breath, or heart palpitations during treatment with nilotinib. Food may also increase the blood levels of nilotinib. Therefore, you should take nilotinib on an empty stomach, meaning no food should be eaten for at least two hours before or one hour after taking nilotinib. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
