Drug Interaction Report
2 potential interactions and/or warnings found for the following 2 drugs:
- Ferriprox (deferiprone)
- sucralfate
Interactions between your drugs
sucralfate deferiprone
Applies to: sucralfate, Ferriprox (deferiprone)
Deferiprone and sucralfate should not be taken orally at the same time. Products that contain aluminum, calcium, iron, magnesium, and/or other minerals may interfere with the absorption of deferiprone and reduce its effectiveness. You should take these medications at least four hours apart. Contact your doctor if your condition worsens. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Drug and food interactions
sucralfate food
Applies to: sucralfate
When sucralfate is given with enteral (tube) feedings, the feeding tube may become clogged and/or sucralfate may not work as well. You could interrupt the feeding for 1 hour before and after the sucralfate dose. However, this still may not entirely avoid the interaction and may not always be feasible. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Therapeutic duplication warnings
No duplication warnings were found for your selected drugs.
Therapeutic duplication warnings are only returned when drugs within the same group exceed the recommended therapeutic duplication maximum.
Drug Interaction Classification
Highly clinically significant. Avoid combinations; the risk of the interaction outweighs the benefit.
Moderately clinically significant. Usually avoid combinations; use it only under special circumstances.
Minimally clinically significant. Minimize risk; assess risk and consider an alternative drug, take steps to circumvent the interaction risk and/or institute a monitoring plan.
