Drug Interaction Report
1 potential interaction and/or warning found for the following 2 drugs:
- urea
- Urografin 325 (diatrizoate)
Interactions between your drugs
diatrizoate urea
Applies to: Urografin 325 (diatrizoate), urea
Before you undergo any imaging procedure where diatrizoate may be given by injection, let your doctor know if you are currently being treated with urea. Injection of diatrizoate can sometimes cause kidney problems, and the risk may be increased if you are also using urea. The interaction may be more likely if you have preexisting kidney disease, congestive heart failure, or diabetes; or if you are elderly, dehydrated, or taking other medications that can affect the kidney. Depending on your health situation, your doctor may want you to stop using urea for a certain length of time before and after the procedure. You may also be asked to increase your fluid intake the day before the procedure, or you may be given intravenous fluids before, during, and after the procedure. Since diatrizoate contains iodine, also let your doctor know if you have had a previous reaction to iodine or iodine-containing products. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
