Interactions between your drugs
allopurinol hydroCHLOROthiazide
Applies to: allopurinol, hydrochlorothiazide / lisinopril
Before taking allopurinol, tell your doctor if you also use hydroCHLOROthiazide. You may need dose adjustments to safely take both medications together. You should notify your doctor if you have symptoms of a rash, itching, fever, or chills. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using your medications without first talking to your doctor.
allopurinol lisinopril
Applies to: allopurinol, hydrochlorothiazide / lisinopril, lisinopril
Talk to your doctor before using allopurinol together with lisinopril. Combining these medications may increase the risk of severe allergic reactions and infections. You should seek immediate medical attention if you develop shortness of breath; throat tightness; swelling of the face, lips, or tongue; itching; rash; fever; and/or muscle pain or weakness. Also let your doctor know if you notice signs of infection or experience fever, chills, sore throat, fatigue, body aches, or other flu-like symptoms. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
hydroCHLOROthiazide lisinopril
Applies to: hydrochlorothiazide / lisinopril, hydrochlorothiazide / lisinopril, lisinopril
Although hydroCHLOROthiazide and lisinopril are frequently combined together, their effects may be additive on lowering your blood pressure. You may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely take both medications. Contact your doctor if you have a reduced heart rate, dizziness, fainting, or headaches. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Drug and food interactions
allopurinol food
Applies to: allopurinol
Consumer information for this interaction is not currently available.
ADJUST DOSING INTERVAL: The tolerability of allopurinol may be improved by giving it after a meal. Additionally, when the dose is greater than 300 mg, dividing the total daily dose into smaller doses administered more often may be appropriate to help minimize gastrointestinal irritation.
MONITOR: Concomitant use of allopurinol with central nervous system (CNS) depressants, including alcohol, may potentiate adverse effects such as somnolence and sedation.
MANAGEMENT: To improve tolerability, some manufacturers suggest administering allopurinol after a meal. Additionally, if the daily dose is greater than 300 mg, administering allopurinol in divided doses may help reduce gastrointestinal intolerance. Patients should also be counseled to avoid or limit consumption of alcohol and to avoid activities requiring mental alertness such as driving or operating hazardous machinery until they know how the medication affects them.
lisinopril food
Applies to: hydrochlorothiazide / lisinopril, lisinopril
It is recommended that if you are taking lisinopril you should be advised to avoid moderately high or high potassium dietary intake. This can cause high levels of potassium in your blood. Do not use salt substitutes or potassium supplements while taking lisinopril, unless your doctor has told you to.
hydroCHLOROthiazide food
Applies to: hydrochlorothiazide / lisinopril
HydroCHLOROthiazide and ethanol may have additive effects in lowering your blood pressure. You may experience headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, and/or changes in pulse or heart rate. These side effects are most likely to be seen at the beginning of treatment, following a dose increase, or when treatment is restarted after an interruption. Let your doctor know if you develop these symptoms and they do not go away after a few days or they become troublesome. Avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medications affect you, and use caution when getting up from a sitting or lying position. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Therapeutic duplication warnings
Therapeutic duplication is the use of more than one medicine from the same drug category or therapeutic class to treat the same condition. This can be intentional in cases where drugs with similar actions are used together for demonstrated therapeutic benefit. It can also be unintentional in cases where a patient has been treated by more than one doctor, or had prescriptions filled at more than one pharmacy, and can have potentially adverse consequences.
Angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors
Therapeutic duplication
The recommended maximum number of medicines in the 'angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors' category to be taken concurrently is usually one. Your list includes two medicines belonging to the 'angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors' category:
- hydrochlorothiazide / lisinopril
- lisinopril
Note: In certain circumstances, the benefits of taking this combination of drugs may outweigh any risks. Always consult your healthcare provider before making changes to your medications or dosage.
