Drug interactions
Moderate drug interactions
Moderate:
dantrolene triflupromazine
Applies to: Revonto (dantrolene) and triflupromazine
Using dantrolene together with triflupromazine may increase side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, and difficulty concentrating. Some people, especially the elderly, may also experience impairment in thinking, judgment, and motor coordination. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with these medications. Also avoid activities requiring mental alertness such as driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medications affect you. Disease interactions
4 potential interactions Applies to: 4 conditions, including Dementia, Heart Disease, Liver Disease, and Pulmonary Impairment.
Dementia
Major:
triflupromazine
Triflupromazine has a major potential interaction with Dementia.
Antipsychotic drugs are not approved for the treatment of patients with dementia-related psychosis. Older patients with dementia-related psychosis treated with antipsychotic drugs are at an increased risk of death; although the causes were varied, most of the deaths appeared to be either cardiovascular (e.g., heart failure, sudden death) or infectious (e.g., pneumonia) in nature. A causal relationship with antipsychotic use has not been established. In controlled trials in older patients with dementia-related psychosis, patients randomized to risperidone, aripiprazole, and olanzapine had higher incidence of cerebrovascular adverse events (e.g., stroke, transient ischemic attack), including fatalities, compared to patients treated with placebo.
Heart Disease
Moderate:
Revonto
The dantrolene in Revonto has a moderate potential interaction with Heart Disease.
Pericarditis, both with and without pleural effusion, has occasionally occurred during the long-term administration of dantrolene. It has not been reported with intravenous use in the emergency treatment of malignant hyperthermia crises. Other adverse cardiovascular effects include tachycardia, erratic blood pressure, and heart failure. Prolonged therapy with dantrolene should be administered cautiously in patients with significantly impaired cardiac function, especially if due to myocardial disease.
Liver Disease
Major:
Revonto
The dantrolene in Revonto has a major potential interaction with Liver Disease.
The use of oral dantrolene is contraindicated in patients with active liver disease, such as hepatitis or cirrhosis. Fatal and nonfatal liver disorders have occurred with dantrolene therapy, and baseline and periodic liver function monitoring is recommended. Dantrolene should generally be discontinued if liver function tests become significantly elevated or if symptoms compatible with hepatitis or jaundice occur.
Pulmonary Impairment
Moderate:
Revonto
The dantrolene in Revonto has a moderate potential interaction with Pulmonary Impairment.
Dantrolene may cause respiratory depression that is possibly related to the muscle weakness produced by the drug. Pleural effusion associated with pericarditis has also occurred occasionally during the long-term administration of dantrolene. Therapy with dantrolene should be administered cautiously in patients with impaired pulmonary function, particularly that due to obstructive pulmonary disease. Patients who receive intravenous dantrolene should have vital signs monitored.

| Highly clinically significant. Avoid combinations; the risk of the interaction outweighs the benefit. | |
| Moderately clinically significant. Usually avoid combinations; use it only under special circumstances. | |
| Minimally clinically significant. Minimize risk; assess risk and consider an alternative drug, take steps to circumvent the interaction risk and/or institute a monitoring plan. | |
