Prothrombin complex Disease Interactions
There are 3 disease interactions with prothrombin complex.
Prothrombin complex (applies to prothrombin complex) disseminated intravascular coagulation
Major Potential Hazard, Moderate plausibility. Applicable conditions: Bleeding Associated with Coagulation Defect

Prothrombin complex (applies to prothrombin complex) heparin-induced thrombocytopenia
Major Potential Hazard, Moderate plausibility.
The brand name products, Kcentra and Bebulin of prothrombin complex, contain heparin; therefore, their use is contraindicated in patients with known heparin-induced thrombocytopenia.

Prothrombin complex (applies to prothrombin complex) thromboembolic complications
Major Potential Hazard, Moderate plausibility. Applicable conditions: Thrombotic/Thromboembolic Disorder, History - Thrombotic/Thromboembolic Disorder
Both fatal and non-fatal arterial thromboembolic events, venous thromboembolic events and disseminated intravascular coagulation have been reported with the use of prothrombin complex. Patients being treated with Vitamin K antagonists have underlying disease states that may predispose them to thromboembolic events, as those with a history of a prior thromboembolism. Reversing, exposes patients to the thromboembolic risk of their underlying disease. Resumption of anticoagulation should be carefully examined following administration of prothrombin complex and Vitamin K once the risk of thromboembolic events outweighs the risk of bleeding. It is recommended to monitor patients undergoing prothrombin complex therapy for signs and symptoms of thromboembolic events during and after the administration of treatment. The use of prothrombin complex may not be suitable for patients with thromboembolic events in the prior three months.

Drug Interaction Classification
Highly clinically significant. Avoid combinations; the risk of the interaction outweighs the benefit.
Moderately clinically significant. Usually avoid combinations; use it only under special circumstances.
Minimally clinically significant. Minimize risk; assess risk and consider an alternative drug, take steps to circumvent the interaction risk and/or institute a monitoring plan.
