Nitrofurazone topical soluble dressing is formulated in a polyethylene glycol base. Polyethylene glycol can be systemically absorbed and excretion may be altered in patients with renal impairment. Symptoms of progressive renal dysfunction such as increased blood urea nitrogen, anion gap, and metabolic acidosis may occur. Therapy with the soluble dressing formulation of nitrofurazone topical should be used cautiously in patients with compromised renal function.
