The use of diphtheria antitoxin should be administered cautiously in patients with a sensitivity to equine serum, asthma, or other allergies. Epinephrine and other supportive measures should be available for immediate management of an anaphylactic reaction. Sensitivity testing should be performed in all individuals prior to use of diphtheria antitoxin.
