Phillips' Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for Constipation "I had jaw surgery 2 weeks ago and I have to be on liquid diet for maybe less than 6 weeks but can also have very soft foods. After a week and half I started eating scrabled eggs and then a couple days later I had to go poop and COULD NOT come out. It was painfull and to the point I was crying, then I was researching on what is the most effective out there... Magnesiam Citrate. I went to walgreens with my dad and he said when he was a child, this was the BEST solutions that helped him out on his constipation. When I bought the Wild Cherry flavor of MOM Phillips I took it right away. It Immediately helped out the cramps because it was extermely painful then I went to take a long nap then 5 hours later IT CAME OUT LIKE A DREAM. Try it Please!"

Phillips' Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for Constipation "I used the strawberry flavored milk of magnesia at 17 weeks pregnancy after having been constipated for about three weeks or so. Never do anything silly like take an unreasonable amount more than the recommended dose--like someone mentioned drinking half a bottle. Anyway, I called in a sick day with work due to hurting belly and took a medicine capful at 2am. It's 8:35 now and I've successfully discharged the problem around 30 minutes ago. Remembering my grandmother giving me this in childhood reminded me that it definitely works, don't overdo it! It's a safe option for pregnancy and also it works."

Phillips' Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for Constipation "About a week after I got my wisdom teeth surgical removed, I began to have painful constipation due to the side effects of the pain medication I was taking, despite an all liquid diet. I had taken the pill version of Ducolax before, but wanted to try a different, more natural remedy. I took the recommended dose for adults, 3 tablespoons (recommended is 3-4tbs) around 1:00pm. I took a nap and 5 hours later, still nothing. At 6 pm I took another 2 tablespoons, this time with 2 full glasses of water. The relief finally occurred around 9:30pm that same day. However, after the first time it has continued to flood out like water almost every 30 minutes. I am talking severe anal leakage. Just be patient and wait after the first dose, unlike me!"

Phillips' Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for Constipation "I take medication that makes me forget about eating during the day, but I don’t take it on the weekend so I consume a lot to make up for the nutrients I am missing. I ate all weekend and had normal stomach ache, but I was constipated this time. Took 30 ml MOM first, 7 hours later I had relieved a small amount, so when my mother came home she set out 45ml and I took it, this morning I have had to go to the bathroom every 5 minutes for 3 hours. BE CAREFUL WITH THE DOSING! Start small doses and give it time to work."

Phillips' Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for Constipation "I am 21 and have struggled with IBS-C for two years now. My doctor has me do colon cleanses when I am severely constipated. So I was prescribed to take the 4 tablespoons of MOM. It took a little over 5 hours to kick in and when it does you'll know. The first few hours were awful with the gurgling and cramping in my stomach. At one point I was going to take more because it seemed to not be working. DONT. It will work and you will feel so much better !"

Phillips' Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for Constipation "I suffered from severe constipation. A week or more at times with not going; when I did it was like rabbit pellets. MOM works very well; but it was explosive pooping (make sure you drink lots of water with it). I wanted to poop, not have diarrhea for hours. I now changed my diet, lowered a constipation causing drug I am on for another condition, drink plenty of water, take olive oil, take pro & prebiotics, take cod liver oil, drink veggie smoothies, no more white bread or junk foods/sodas, exercise, meditate and stretch my muscles. MOM is not a long term solution... life style change is. Good luck to you."

Phillips' Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for Constipation "I'm only 17 and I am always constipated. I've tried fiber one bars, miralax, and 4 water bottles a day. (Not all at once) but after not having a bowel movement after one week I decided to try milk of magnesia. My great grandma swore by it and my mom picked it up and told me to give it a shot. I took 1 tbsp at about 11pm and went to bed. Woke up and didn't feel the urge. Took 1 tbsp at about 9 am and had a satisfactory BM in 30 minutes. This stuff is great."

Phillips' Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for Constipation "I have been constipated for 20 YEARS due to a brain injury/nerve damage. Bottom line is I don't have a bowel movement without "help" EVER. I've usually go around 2-3 weeks without having one. Anyway this stuff is a lifesaver. I've tried everything. It's reliable and it doesn't hurt like other laxatives do. There can be slight cramping but that's to be expected when you haven't pooped in 20 days. Anyway I take it on an empty stomach, followed by a large glass of water (or three). The more water you drink the more violent it will be but I don't care as long as I feel better. I take it during the day, not before bed. This way there are no accidents and it works much faster (in the time it takes to start 'going' AND the time it lasts)"

Phillips' Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for Constipation "I've tried everything and I mean, EVERYTHING. I have severe OIC and have discovered that I need "hydrating" laxatives. This is the best one I've tried that is reliable and predictable. I take it with lots of water. That's really important otherwise I will cramp and get nauseous. I also take it at night and in the morning after I'm up and moving around for about an hour I will "go". Sometimes in a severe bout of OIC, I may need the larger dose of 4TBL. Just remember... Lots of water with this. Good luck!"

Phillips' Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for Constipation "I had constipation for like 3 days and it was getting super uncomfortable. So I bought some MoM (milk of magnesia) and it worked like a charm. You gotta be a little careful with the dosage so that you don't end up on the toilet for hours. I took the minimum 15mL and it did wonders. I'm a tiny person so it's safe to say weight makes a very big difference."

Phillips' Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for Constipation "I have had severe constipation and I was barely using the bathroom within 8 months I would say I was using the bathroom about once or twice a week. Just last night I tried milk of magnesia and it was a life saver! barely using the bathroom within 8 months is very dangerous so I was so scared! But this helped and I'm so happy! I feel a lot better!"

Phillips' Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for Constipation "I read comments here about MOM taking it too far in the reverse. The directions and some patience are very important factors. My mother is 101 so we are very careful. After many years of chronic constipation and emergency room visits where even the ER couldn't easily help, we learned MOM taken correctly gives gentle relief over the course of a day or so. Our doctor explained MOM pulls moisture into the bowel to give relief, so it makes sense people are giving themselves the reverse problem by being too much in a hurry. Can't say enough about this rediscovered old friend. It is the most natural choice."

Phillips' Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for Constipation "This stuff definitely works. I'm 27 weeks pregnant and have been backed up for the better part of the last two weeks. I'm scared to take anything as far as medications because this is my first and I don't want to chance anything, Like someone else said, take as recommended and drink water!! Don't over do it it may take as long at 6 hours. And DO NOT take of you have somewhere to be. I would describe this as cramp free for sure, but I would say you may be confused if you're peeing or not. You're probably not peeing, and it's definitely working. Will definitely be replacing my regular laxative!! Oh and it's a little chalky, but not terrible if you shoot it."

Phillips' Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for Constipation "I’ve never been constipated my whole life until just recently (46). Finally decided to take MOM this morning. I took 45 ml b/c I’m a pretty big guy. After 2 hours nothing had happened so I took 15 ml more thinking maybe 45 wasn’t quite enough. This time I drank 8 ounces of water as well. About 15 minutes later it was on! My advice, no matter what size you are, start with the lowest recommended dose and drink 8-12 ounces of water with it. And give it time to work."

Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for Constipation "I am 23 years old and have suffered from stomach issues and constipation most of my life. In the past several years, I have struggled with IBS-C and have really bad constipation during my flares. I have tried just about everything to relieve my constipation specifically prunes, miralax, Metamucil, extra fruits/veggies, and lots of water. Nothing seemed to help and I was getting frustrated! Finally I was at the store buying some Gas-X, when I came across Milk of Magnesia and called my mom to see what she thought. I ended up buying it and took the 2 tablespoon dose at night with an 8oz glass of water and went to bed. I did feel the gas and my stomach rumbled all night but no action until I got up and ate. It definitely cleared me out!!"

Phillips' Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for Constipation "I had never been constipated before and was getting really Fed up. I was going to try MOM but my pharmacist recommend senokot along with lactulose. I tried these for a couple of days but neither was working. By day 6 I resorted to MOM knowing I had the following day off. I took 5tbsp at 12:00am and by 3:00am I had a normal gentle BM, with no cramping or side effects. Highly recommended!"

Phillips' Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for Constipation "I never get constipated. I usually poop at least twice per day, so when I woke up yesterday and felt like I had to poop, but could not get it out, no matter how hard I pushed, I soon enough found myself in an immense amount of pain and discomfort. I ate oatmeal, a whole bag of frozen spinach doused in butter, and drank herbal tea, to no avail. After finding the helpful reviews on this board, I asked my fiancée to pick up some MoM for me, on his way home today. I took 4tbs at about 8:00pm and at around 10:30pm, I was finally able to poop! I've had a few explosive diarrheas since, but at this point, I do NOT care, it just felt so good to go! MoM tastes pretty vile, but it works!"

Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for Constipation "for a couple days I wasn't eating very well and I noticed I wasn't using the restroom regularly. I went and got fruit and stuff with high fiber and I was still stopped up except for occasional little stools. After not being able to go fully for a couple days I started getting very bad abdominal cramps and I started vomiting. I went to CVS and bought milk of magnesia took three tablespoons of it and 30 minutes later I got diarrhea. I feel better my stomach doesn't hurt anymore and I'm not vomiting. I would recommend this to anyone with constipation problems but be prepared for multiple toilet trips"

Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for Constipation "I'm 8 weeks pregnant and have been having trouble with constipation. I also have problems with nausea and vomiting so I know my intake of food and water hasn't been the best. Today I felt the urge to have a bowel movement and was really excited to do so, as that hasn't been happening for a couple weeks and I had to take an enema about 3 days ago. I tried to make a BM and nothing but a pellet came out and I was left with stool in my rectum which caused a good deal of pain and discomfort. I literally could not sit down. I managed to make it down the street to CVS for MoM (cvs brand). I took about 45 ml + water at first and then about 20 min later I took the additional 15 ml + water. 6.5 very painful hours later baseballs come out. Relief!"

Phillips' Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for Constipation "I've never had problems with my bowel movements. However, I just had to have surgery and was taking a narcotic - mostly to sleep at night. I had a small bowel movement the third night home, but then felt horribly constipated. It was almost worse than the operation. It was painful, uncomfortable in my belly and bloating. I took olive oil, ate fruit, did all the things to get my body moving. I walked around for hours. Still, nothing. Finally, my mother came over with The Phillips Milk of M and I took the largest amount. Nothing right away. I became frustrated and took another two tsp. about three hours into waiting. Exactly six hours after I took the first dose my system finally kicked in - BIG TIME. It was really painful, but RELIEF."

Milk of Magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) for Constipation "Dr. took me off of a medication that caused constipation and I still couldn’t go for a month. I was getting so weak and I didn’t know what to do. I prayed about it and milk of magnesia was what I got. Yes it worked! I feel so much better. I think medication gets stopped up in the intestine and stays with you until you get it out. I’m so happy about that. I took 4 tablespoons and it worked within four hours but I have diarrhea and not sure if I’m supposed to have stools yet. I will wait and see. This was my first time for using it in a very long time. Hopefully I’m no longer stopped up and will go regularly now but if I need to use it again I will."

Now don’t get your hopes high on it working in 6 hours if your really backed up . It took 10 hours to work for me but definitely worth the wait . I will definitely use this product again"
