I’ve been taking phenytoin for about 20 years or so for 2 seizures I had 20 years ago. I don’t have a neurologist anymore because mine retired so my regular doctor just gives it to me. I also have bad anxiety for which I go to a psychiatrist. I take gabapentin, Klonopin, Lexapro and Buspar for my anxiety. I’m just wondering if I could maybe stop the phenytoin. I’ve read that gabapentin is also an anticonvulsant and Klonopin too. I’ve had no bad side effects I’m just worried about being on phenytoin so long.
I’m worried about taking phenytoin/Dilantin too long?

Answers
Who is prescribing gabapentin, Klonopin, Lexapro and Buspar ?
Dilantin might not be needed, I agree with you since you have other medications, question is what happens if you stop it ?
I had to get gum surgery and teeth extracted when I was off Dilantin and put back on it.
Maybe ask about Tegretol or Keppra to replace it if you still need a medication
My friend was on Dilantin for a long time and her doctor has her a gabapentin for nerve issues and it worked out for her seizure control too
