I have been taking Zoloft 75 mg for almost a year. I was just increased to 100 and also added mirtazapine 7.5 (very low dose). Since I started last July, I have gained almost 20 lbs. I work out daily, eat v few calories and I continue to gain. I have been an athlete my entire life and never had an issue with weight gain so this is really hard frustrating.
My doctor just switched me to Wellbutrin SR and the pharmacist said I may still gain weight, but my doc said I would loose weight... I have two questions 1. Is there a chance I will loose weight? 2. If so, will it be able to remove the weight put on by the other drugs that healthy eating and exercise cant?

Hi, ksp! Most, if not all, psychotropic medications have the potential to cause weight gain due to metabolic changes. Wellbutrin is considered "weight neutral" because weight changes can go either way but IF you experience any weight changes at all chances are greater that you'll lose. You should be able to drop the weight you gained on Zoloft and mirtazapine just by stopping them. "WELLBUTRIN Metabolic - Very common (10% or more of users): Weight loss greater than 2.3 kg (up to 28%), weight gain greater than 2.3 kg (up to 11%) Common (1% to 10% of users): Anorexia, decreased appetite" (2.3kg = 5.07lbs) Best regards and good luck with your Wellbutrin. I've been taking it for about four years and I love it.

No, but I'm lucky to never have had much in the way of side effects with any of the psych meds I've taken. Sleep disturbances and nightmares have been reported with Wellbutrin but it's fairly uncommon. As severe as what you're describing you need to let your doctor know about it. You may need a dosage adjustment temporarily.
