I’ve been taking sertraline for two weeks now and I still don’t feel my moods listing. Sleeping is weird I have very vivid dreams not bad dreams just very vivid. I have trouble getting to sleep so I take Valium also, which I would like to stop taking. Does anyone take anything else alongside sertraline to help with the low moods and sleep?
Two weeks on sertraline and still don’t feel my moods lifting?

Answers
Hi, Mila!
Your side effects are quite common and insomnia affects about 20% of users.
From the literature:
"Side effects have been reported to be generally mild and transient. They are most common during the first 2 weeks of treatment and decrease in intensity and frequency with continued treatment. They generally do not lead to treatment cessation."
Many people begin to feel improvements within the first few weeks but it can take 4-8 weeks to become fully effective. You're taking an initial dosage and that may not be enough for you. The maintenance dosages are 50-200mg/day.
You should let your doctor know about the side effects and your lack of progress. They can give you professional advice as to whether you need an increase and also to suggest a remedy for your sleeping problems.

Hi WildcatVet,
Thank you for getting back to me. I spoke with my GP this afternoon and he has told me to start taking Valdoxan. I’m hoping it helps regulate my sleep.
I’ve been told to not take my Sertraline tonight and start Valdoxan tomorrow before bed.
I’ve been in Sertraline for two weeks. Do you think I’ll experience any withdrawal effects? My GP doesn’t seem to think so.
