I had a mechanical aortic valve implanted in 2005. I get the flu shot every fall and probably would anyway, even if my doctors did not suggest it.
Sounds like your clinic is looking to make money. Are you in a high risk job, like working at a hospital? If not, there is nothing mandatory about taking the shot. The flu shot mix is their best guess at what is coming this winter. If they are correct it will stop you from getting the flu. If you get the flu and it is the same type as was in the shot, you should recover more quickly and the effects should be less. If they are wrong, then you will get no real benefit at all. You will need to make the decision for yourself. For myself, I will not get the flu shot.
I am on warfarin and I am not going to get a flu shot. I read somewhere that it wasn't good to get the shot. I disagree when your clinic says it is a must. What does your doctor say.
My doc asked me to reconsider my decision not to get a flu shot. I didn't get one... I am working on being very careful to not get sick. Thanks for your input.
