I read many years ago that it is a bacterial infection that like a yeast infection can be picked up in some way other than an sti .
I had it and then the treatment would give me a yeast infection and my partner was an alcoholic and couldn’t bare the oral treatment and the topical medication did not work on him the first time, eventually I treated it with a natural remedy, which I wouldn’t list here as that be medical advice and I cannot remember the particulars.
So is possible your husband is telling the truth, you have to decided if it is probable.
