My doctor just prescribed mupirocin and triaminicolone for a skin problem. Both, the antibiotic and steroid are used to treat skin infections, rashes, etc. They don't interact with each other. He said I can apply them one after another, in any order.
The steroid slows down the overreacting immune response (locally) from making the rash inflamed. The antibiotic stops the bacteria (staph, MRSA, etc) from multiplying so it will die off.
The only reason I was searching for this is because I wanted to know how other people are applying the two... spaced apart timewise or literally one after the other.
No. Triamcinolone is a steroid cream and would make something that needed mupirocin worse. Mupirocin is an antibiotic cream and is to prevent infections.
My comment is this. I recently received a diagnosis of cellulitis of lower extremities and was prescribed mupirocin to apply to effected area. On follow up visit Doctor prescribed Triamcinolone cream and I sure as heck do not understand why he would do this if the above is true.
One is a steroid cream and one an antibiotic cream and making the infection worse. Any explanation's out there.
