Trazodone - how long does it take for transadone to work?

Hi there,
I depends how many mgs you take. When I was on it with 100mgs it took about 15 minutes for me to get sleepy and fall asleep but now I take only 25 to help me relax to fall asleep and I can stay up for an hour no problem and go to bed.

I take 100 mg and thought I took it at 2 am and now it looks like I didn’t take it, thanks for saying how long 100 mg takes to work

And what he said about racing thoughts that is normal, I always get those I’ve been on trazodone since the 8th grade, 6, 7, or 8 years

I have been taking generic Ambien for years, and now my new doctor is trying to get me off of it. It's the only thing that's ever worked to calm my racing mind at night. Last night was my first night of 1/2 Ambien (which never works) with 100 mg trazodone, and I literally lay awake all night. I turned off the lights when I was feeling sleepy, and just ended up laying there.. the dr said it will take about 14 days for it to work fully and where the Ambien is out of my system, but I can't do no sleep for that long.. I'm hoping it will get better!

I've taken trazodone, its very fast acting... I slept all night, but I did not have any racing thoughts. Good luck greenbay1

Hello greenbay,
I agree with jerst, trazodone works immediately. If you are having racing thoughts you should talk to your doctor, because trazodone should help calm the racing thoughts. Maybe you need a dose increase? You didn't say what does your on?

Hi greenbay1..well..the trazodone should help with sleep almost immediately..I used to take 150mg at night..still take 50 mg at night for sleep
As for depression trazodone does not do much..I feel it is a "chill pill" that helps with anxiety though many do not think this... You did not say what dose you were on..take care
