However, today accidentally took 4 doses, perhaps even 5! I feel a little sick & rather tired but going to the hospital would make me feel stupid. I can't drive like this anyway so I'm stuck. Has anyone out there made the same mistake? I would love to hear some "you'll be fine" or "I did the same thing & it was over fast" kind of comments :). Please!
I've been taking Tramadol 200 mg twice a day for the past month with fantastic results!?

1 200mg a day
This is NOT safe... I repeat... NOT SAFE!! I have a family member who is now in a detox program due to abusing the 200 mg tablets of Tramadol for a long time. He did start having seizures and nearly bit his own tongue off during one. He then went into withdrawals and was in a coma for 12 days. PLEASE, do NOT take this medication especially if it has been purchased overseas/online. 200 mg dosage is not even available in the United States for good reason.
I am a Life Coach and also certified in drug abuse/intervention so I know of what I speak.
200 mgs is readily available by RX in the US. stick to ur life coach duties.
Hi, i've only just picked up this feed. I'm glad you are OK! When i first started taking Tramadol i had the usual side effects of lethargy, but unable to sleep, and sickness. I guess it took a couple of months before i could tolerate them completely. You should find that the longer you take them, you become more tolerant. Beware of increasing you dose though, as many people do, me being one, and get in to trouble with them. I got up to 1000mg a day, which as everyone has told you is very dangerous. I didn't take the warning of Tramadol being addictive seriously. They are a great pain killer, just be careful with them : )
Thanks Delila. I have had a pain killer addiction in the past so I will be sure to be carefull with the Tramadol SR. And thanks heaps for giving me an approximate time for the side effects to go away. Like you I am unable to sleep but get so drowzy that I get blurred vision & sometimes bump into things. Luckily I am on disability because of my health conditions so I don't work or have to drive very often :)
jadelegs, have you personally done any research on tramadol or are you just taking you doctors word that it isn't addictive? I would like you to read the info for yourself & am giving the link in blue. Please be very careful with this drug if you have addiction problems. Just click on the link below, again wishing you the best... Mary
https://www.drugs.com/tramadol.html
Hi Jade, check out the link Mary provided. Tramadol info holds a warning that it shouldn't be prescribed if you have a history of addiction, but doctors overlook this all the time, like they did with me! You are potentially less at risk as you are taking the SR version.
Are you ok? did you go to the hospital? I am ashemed to say that I used to abuse tramadol everytime I run out of hydrocodone or oxys, some time took about 800 mg at day and thank God nothing happend to me, but this is very dangerus and you should really try to avoid doing this in the future, sounds to me like you maybe taking someting else that is making you forget what you took? please please please, be very careful, maybe you should see if another med is conflicting with the tramadol and causing you memory poblems there are a lot of meds that do not get along with tramadol.
Hope you are feeling better.
Thanks Molinabe. I'm not taking any other medication. I only started taking the Tramadol 30 days ago & the side effects are still pretty strong! I figured out that I accidently took 4 of the 200mg sr over 24 hours. Because my sleep is all over the place I just got bit mixed up. I'm pretty sure it won't happen again :)
Thanks for your concern. You metioned you would take 800mg in the past... I've have addiction issues in the past but I was told by my dr that the slow release Tramadol was non addictive because there is no instant rush...
Tramadol has no rush. I don't notice any kind of euphoria or any rush, ever. It will make you dependent on it, that's not addiction.
Hi Jade,
To avoid this problem, keep a medicine written record at home like they do in a hospital. 5 years ago, I got into a serious problem of not taking enough Lorazepam as prescribed. I had a seizure and landed in the hospital for 7 days. A home medical written record will help you avoid such problems in the future. This would apply to any medicine, RX or OTC.
Kenison Ray
Very good idea KennisonRay. Also I would like to suggest to the questioner, if you are seeing pain management doctor, that you have a long talk with him about your pain control. It sounds like with all your problems you need to be on somethiggng stronger for your pain. I too have a lot of the problems you were describing & more. I am on oxycodone which has not tylenol & it way better controls my pain issues. You would have to titrate down off the med you are on of course, but I believe oxycodone would probably help you a whole lot more...
Yes, I do have a pain management specialist, a fantastic GP and a Reheumatologist also. I have had all of these conditions since I was 13, I am now 30 years old. The migraines started when I was 20 and just kept getting worse. I have taken every pain killer out there! Oddly enough the ddrug that worked the best was stilnox (I think the brand name elsewhere is Ambien). I started taking 2 a day & they made me numb. I had no pain at all and because I have no pain, I had so much energy! Of course I got used to them very fast and would take 20 per day at least. I came off the after being taken to the hospital after taking 30 in 14 hours. I knew I was going to kill myself. I've tried every drug & been addicted to many of them but no matter how many I took I was still in pain. The first day I took the Tramadol SR 200mg (daily dosage of 400mg) I felt no pain! And I was myself. I was slurrying my words or risking my life. I really believe that this is the drug for me and I don't think I'll ever become addicted... Dependent yes, but not addicted.
That's wondeful if if helps you that's great! I think we all misread your question & thought you took all of your pills at one time, leading us to believe your pain was uncontrolled & that was your reason for doing that. without further info or knowing you better it was in my opinion you should ask for a better pain med. If you are doing well on what you are on, then that is wonderful, but then don't understand your question. Am also glad you see a pain managment doctor, a rheumatologist & PCP too. I do also, & have lived with chrontic pain for 44 years. Wishing you the best... Mary
I noticed that one of your health issues is migraines. I have had daily migraines for over 20 years now and have JUST found a pain specialist that is helping me GREATLY! Have you taken any of the migraine meds? Typical pain meds will not help a migraine since it is a different type of pain as well as different types of migraines. My doctor has added low dose pain patches and, in conjuntion with my other medication, this seems to be helping tremendously. I hope you find some peace :)
Hi, I was a pharmacist for 4 years and the max dose is 400mgs a day, as long as you took them at least 4 hours apart then you will be fine, and do not take anymore until tomorrow,it would help me if I knew what your normal dose per day was? hope this helps
Skip the question about your daily dose I meant did you take 4 or 5 doses?
I believe he means he took 4 doses of 200 mg, which puts him at 800 a day.
Ok then you should seek medical attn right away, you can call 911 if you have no other way to the hospital but you should do it now before you faint or worse!
Yes, & he also said maybe 5 does of 200mg which puts him at 1,000mg! That is danger RED all over the place. Call 911 immediately!
That's what I said he should call 911 before there becomes a chance he's not able too, let us know what's going on please? We are all worried!
Thanks heaps guys! I actally took 4 200mg sr over a 24 hour period. Because I've only been on them for 30 days I'm still suffering from the side effects of insomnia, sleeping for 4 hours over 3 days & then nodding off at stange times. I guess in my haze that is how I managed to take 4!
I was fine :) No need to call 911 or 000 (I'm in Australia). Nothing strange to report at all. Maybe felt a little bit sick in my tummy but vomitting.
Thank you all for your help! It really means alot considering I don't have much support where I am.
Hey, would anyone know how long these side effects can last? I've been told by one pharmacist that it will be another month from now. And I've been told it can take anywhere from weeks, months or years... Depending on what my body can or can't do...
Sorry for the spelling mistakes, blurry vision is another fantastic side effect! LOL I know I'm complaining a heap but I would put up with these side effects for however long because this drug is the first thing that has taken my pain away :)
I have ankylosing spondylitis. Severe scoliosis and get migraines that can last for 48 hours and land me in the the hospital (many times!) I used to have at least 2 a week, none since the tramadol though! :)
Ok since it was over a 24 hour period that makes it somewhat better, please don't take another dose for 24 hours ok, I want you to be safe, I'm so glad you are ok, Kelly
There is a reason you WERE a pharmacist. Hopefully, you remain out of the field. If this person were in dire need, this website is not the solution. "As long as you took them 4 hours apart"?? Really?? Do not dispense medical information.
Hi
Would u pls tell me how it's advantages in life and how it can affect on body and life if someone has to take 300 mg tramadol every day
Thanks
Hello JadeLegs 11. If you do feel that you are too uncomfortable, take a taxi or perhaps a friend or family member can take you to the nearest hospital. Take care, be safe pledge
Since you posted this as a direct question we can only answer one time unless it is another comment rather than a direct answer. PLEASE! Listen to Pledge, & call 911 immediately! 800 to 1000mg of this drug all at one time is very dangerous. Do you want to look stupid or be dead? Swallow your pride, & call 911 NOW.Yes, they are going to question why you did this, but it's important right now for you to get medical attention...
I am going to second and third 'Anonymous'' comment. Please seek medical attention.
I'd like to say you'll be fine, but the truth is that high doses can cause seizures. How did you manage to do that? I'll repeat but what I say every day in my job, use a pill box, then you know what you've taken.
My son was Percribed tramadol 50mg for back pain, he was in alot of pain and took 400 at one time and had a gran mall seizure never had one in his life, tramadol is crap at low dose it does not work. But taking that much and even I have heard of people taking less and have a seizure I think it should be off the market
What is the age of your child??
