Hello i'm taking sertraline for 6 weeks now. I've increased gradually, up to 150 mg since 3 weeks. I was on citalopram since 15 years but it didn't seems to work anymore so I was putted on Zoloft for severe depression and anxiety. I'm starting to lose faith in sertraline since I have no positive effects (maybe the only one is appetite is back) for 6 complete weeks. Can it take longer ? I've red maybe 7-8 weeks ? Should I wait 1 to 2 other weeks before asking for an increase or another pill ?
Can it take more than 6 weeks to see any positive effect with Sertraline ?

Hi, jf!
It can take 6-8 weeks to feel the full benefit of the medication but you still should be seeing at least some improvement.
Maybe give it another week or two. Maybe try another increase in dosage. Change medication.
Every person responds differently to the medications and what may be life-changing for some may not work well for another. It's kind of a trial and error situation to find the one that works best for you. Be sure your doctor is aware of your seeming lack of progress.

Hi, I saw my psychiatrist today and she increased the dosage to 200 mg. I will begin my 7th week on Zoloft this Saturday. Since it's a new dosage, how many time should I wait before seeing positive effects ? Is it another up to 6-8 weeks or it could be less since I have already did 6 weeks but with a lower dosage. Thanks.
No, it shouldn't take as long but it could be several weeks. Still, you should (hopefully) already be feeling some of the effects in the first one or two weeks. It's not going to happen overnight because it's a gradual process for your metabolism to adjust as the medication starts to help the brain "reboot", so to speak.
Your dosage is now at the high end of the maintenance recommendations so if you're not feeling anything happening in a few weeks let your doctor know.
Best wishes, WC
