Hi, Marty099,
NO, you cannot take sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim for tooth abscesses. It is not the antibiotic prescribed for that.
It sounds like you have some sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim lying around the house and are thinking of taking it for your teeth. DO NOT DO IT.
Go to a dentist or a dental clinic, and get a dentist to look at your teeth and prescribe an antibiotic for you. A tooth abscess is nothing to be ignored or treated improperly. It is infection that you swallow into your stomach and could lead to an infection in your jaw. If money is a problem, get some help from someone. The longer you wait the worse it will become.
All the best to you,
Tony
tonyplake, an antibiotic that fights bacteria will pretty much work on an abscess tooth!
You were giving advice like a pharmacist, or doctor would say!
Most people who write in for advice usually have no money or insurance!
I'm pretty sure this antibiotic would work fine for an abscessed tooth!
