I take Feramax 150 for anemia, once a day, first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, with orange juice, to maximize absorption. My doctor has now recommended doubling the dose. Should I take both pills together, or the second at night when my stomach would not be empty?
When to take second iron pill?

Only take iron if you are iron deficient or you may cause other problems,
Doctors assume giving iron helps with anemia.
Take folic Acid, B12 instead.

I too take Feramax twice a day.
My doctor told me to take the first dose before breakfast & the second dose 2 to 3 hours before my lunch or dinner.
The reason why you take it before eating is for maximum absorption.
It doesn't matter if you take it with juice or water. Don't take it with coffee though.

It should be taken with orange juice or, if taken with water, with a Vitamin C supplement. Vitamin C helps the absorption of iron, just as Vitamin D helps absorption of calcium.
Take care.
