Have a terrible stomach ache with nausea and heartburn, my lower abdomen was in all sorts of pain and the ER thought I my appendix was bad only to find the my digestive tract is full of feces! I was prescribed magnesium citrate and it did work (I think)..But my concern is oes the magnesium citrate break down the fecal matter or is it just going around the "poop"?
I had nothing solid come out, just watery stool!
Anyone have an answer or an educated guess?
I horribly stressed about and I know stressing about can't be helpful either!
Prescribed magnesium citrate for constipation, this is not the normal for me!?

OK I was in the same predicament but only add being plugged up and doing treatments and thought was emptied I'm not, so I went back to er because I was still feeling like I had to go again and was getting the spasms with it and they wouldn't quit trying to make me go. So like I said I went back and the ER doctors aid drink another 10 ounces because after he examined me he found I still had trapped fecal matter triggering the urge to go and then they put me on amitiza 24mcg twice daily. He said this should keep me cleaned out from now on because I take a lot of medication for my heart that is causing the constipation so I'll need to stay on these to make it all work out right for now.
As far as being all liquid and not chunky at all, I didn't get much as far as chunks but if you still are feeling the urge to go I would do another round of it and check with your doctor on the meds I mentioned if you persistently get backed up from medications or pain pills. I hope my experience will help you out. All you have to remember is try to drink as much liquid as your putting out because you can dehydrate otherwise.
Tina57; My friend Windchime; covered everything and now that you are having regular bowel movements you have nothing to worry about. Just backing up Windchime because your right worrying about it does not help, And I'm thinking the Zantac could have been the problem to start with and now that you have cleared your bowels and are having movements regular you have nothing to worry about. So eat like you are and if you feel like you have not had a b/m in a while it's always good to add fiber to your diet. and Extra water. Hope you have a good weekend and glad everything is okay.
Hi Tina,
Mag Citrate is a saline laxative usually used for bowel prep for procedures or bad constipation.
It is thought to work by increasing the fluid in the small intestine which forces the stool out. It is why you had all the water.
Don't worry! It's not going around the poop.
Be very careful not to get constipated.
Extra water and fiber, activity and raw fruits and vegetables.
Good luck
:-)
Jeez-O-Pete, so I'm worrying about nothing then!
Thank you for the info!
Appreciate your help and advice!
Wait!
You did have poop come out? Right?
They saw it on x-ray.
They said I had "a lot of fecal matter" in my digestive tract!
Like I stated before, alliteration the magnesium citrate treatment I only got watery stools
Also I'm 5'3" and 114 lbs soaking wet and I eat well (so I thought ).
Stress??? I do stress a LOT
I hate to say this but ...
So Sorry!
If they diagnosed you with constipation then you should have SOME hard stool coming out after the Mag Citrate. It acts within an hour.
You may want to call the ER back and tell them you only had watery return results.
How long had it been since you had a normal bm?
Are you still having pain?
Your impaction may be rather high up so another Mag Citrate may be necessary.
How to say this gently...
If you did not have a bm in 3 days and were eating normally, you should have had the amount you usually put out.
Is constipation a one time incidence for you ?
If not, I will post tips on good bowel health.
But first, the food had to go somewhere !
Either you expelled it or it's still in there.
Don't worry... Lol
The pain is better and they never said the word "impaction",they just said "a lot" but I have had BMs prior to this scan.
I haven't gone ant day without having one but I was also on zantac for a few days... would that be the culprit?
Tina,
I think you are on to something!
Zantac is a histamine blocker meaning it reduces the amount of acid in your stomach.
It also has a side effect of constipation or diarrhea.
Having the bm before the scan makes me say not to worry but be watchful !
Miralax is the recommended drug of choice for constipation. It's a bulk fiber forming med. it's the most natural.
Whenever something goes "wrong" in your body, think of what is different that may have caused it.
You will probably feel bloated for a few days until your body resumes its normal function.
Drink lots of water even hot. The heat increases the bowel activity. It's why coffee works plus it's got caffeine which is a stimulant. Natural tea is a good habit.
You mentioned stress.
Stop! Stress is bad! Lol...
Take time each day to devote to having a bm. People get crazy with their schedules and things get backed up.
Usually after breakfast with hot tea, take time when you are not going to be interrupted.
Whew! Good luck and watch that you get regular again. You may have some up there yet so it's easy to repeat.
:-)
You are such an awesome person!
You have no idea how much you've helped relieving my stress over this!
I cannot thank you enough!
Sometimes it helps just to get an outsider opinion and I really appreciate you taking the time to do this for me!
I will take all of your advice and put it to good use!
Thank you!
Lol... You made my day!
Remember... fresh fruits and veggies !
:-)
