After taking Paxil for about 12 years can this drug wear off? Also is there something newer or better for anxiety? My phycologist (non-prescriber) mentioned this. My anxiety has been out of control lately
Does Paxil 20mg stop working?

Hi, Vault!
Yes, it's not at all uncommon for an antidepressant/anxiolytic to "poop out" after long term use. You might want to talk to your prescriber (or psychologist) about other medications such as Lexapro, Zoloft, or Celexa. There's also buspirone which is specific for anxiety but it's 50/50... works for some people but not for others.
Best regards and hope you're feeling better soon.
Thank you for the response. My plan is to talk to my prescriber at my next visit.
