Overdose of Lantus?

Txs for ur reply. Well you were not alone as it seemed no Doctor exactly knew what to do. Lantus had never been given IV or any studies done about giving out so. Hit or miss for 72 hours plays hell to any sense of well doing

I was sitting here thinking on so many levels she blew it. There are 5 rights to giving a med and she blew 4 of them, lol... I found info that said its not given iv because it destroys the time release effect. Not that its harmful. But 1000u is one heck of a lot of insulin. Even if she'd given it to the right person, with the right route, she still would have od'd them. I was a nursing supervisor for years, and I don't know for sure I could have handled that one calmly.

Unfortunately an employee health full time nurse who worked a unit to help out. She was devastated, truly.

Oh wow, so she was wayyyyyyyyyyyyy out of her element. That is why I always hated to have to move nurses around. We can't be a master of all things, no matter how much they think we should. I bet she is still beating herself up over it.

Thx for ur empathy and to that poor nurse as well. It is amazing how this kind of event can shatter ur sense of well being. I wake up nightly thinking I have gone unconscious in that ICU and will never wake up. Thanks for ur kindmess
