my boyfriend is on drug court & he has random U.A's. Recently he had a REAL BAD toothache & he was using alot of oralgel way over recommended dose. The pain was horrible he wasn't sleeping & couldn't eat. Anyways after 2 or 3 days of using oralgel had to submit a U.A, and it tested positive for cocaine. Is that possible?
Orajel - can oralgel effect a drug test 5 panel?

Wow, I read Mary's link to oraljel, and I can see why she would never recommend it again!! But what I wanted to add is if your boyfriend is using other products besides oraljel for his toothache, they may contain belladonna, which is a very dangerous drug. Perhaps if he used one of those preparations, it might screw with his drug test panel.
One more thing, sometimes these panels have false positives. They are supposed to send the test for more comprehensive testing if your boyfriend objects to the results.
Tahnks for adding that Ellen. I was so wowed by the oragel html I forgot it! oragel is apparently a benzo with lydocaine added to numb! Of course you would absorb the benzo & to think I used it on babies gums! No wonder they always acted ike it helped & took a nap right afterwards... Mary
This is an old thread but I had to clarify something. Orajel does have side effects and using too much can cause breathing/oxygen problems. But the comment that calls it a "benzo mixed with lidocaine" is way off. It's not a benzo like the meds used for anxiety (Xanax, Klonopin, Valium). You aren't giving your baby a benzo that's making it sleepy! It's referred to as benzocaine. It's a numbing agent.
Hello danielleburr & welcome to the site. I saw your quetsion, & didn't know the answer so I looked it up, & still don't have the complete answer, but was in shock reading the side effets of using this product. I have used it on my babies gums when they were teething, but will never reccomend it again! I will give you the link to read about it, & suggest that maybe it did mess up his test! Please read & print it out, & have him show this to the person doing the tests.I had no idea it can cause all of the problems listed, & at the amount he was using it surely caused a negative test result... I might add that if this tooth is causing this much pain he see a dentist as soon as possibe. They may prescribe pain relievers, but be very careful about this if he has an addiction problem. Advil or one such as this would be better to use for the pain... Mary
