I take the instant release, 30mg three times a day. I usually feel it kick in after 20-30 minutes and lasts about 4-6 hours.
I find the effects of the quick release option within about 40 mins but last nowhere near the suggested 6 to 8 hrs - for me about 3 to 4 hours. I take 5mg (half a tablet) 3 times a day - morning, lunch time and late afternoon.
Thats because quick release is only meant to last 3 to 4 hours extended release last 8
Methylphenidate has a number of different formulations.
How long the effect of the drug lasts depends on which one you are taking.
Immediate release formulation lasts about 8 hours.
Sustained release formulation lasts about 8 hours.
Extended release formulation lasts about 24 hours.
