The reason doctor's advise against drinking alcohol while taking anti biotics is not due, mostly, to an interaction between alcohol and the medication... It is more to do with how your body processes both drugs. By drinking alcohol you are increasing your body's natural disposal functions. People tend to pee more when drinking a beer. This means the anti biotic gets processed through your system quicker, resulting in a lower amount of time the drug is effective in your system.
The alcohol will effect the efficacy of the medication, so it's not a good idea
From the NHS website:
"Alcohol can interact with certain medicines.
In the case of Amoxicillin trihydrate/Potassium clavulanate:
there are no known interactions between alcohol and Amoxicillin trihydrate/Potassium clavulanate"
So, apparently not, no.
As in, no, there's apparently no reason why you can't drink alcohol while on this drug.
Not according to the NHS website:
Alcohol can interact with certain medicines.
In the case of Amoxicillin trihydrate/Potassium clavulanate:
there are no known interactions between alcohol and Amoxicillin trihydrate/Potassium clavulanate
OK, just passing on what my doctor told me in the past... maybe the information in this case has been updated? Thanks for posting
