How long does it take for the effects of Xeljanz XR to relieve RA pain?

I've been on this medication for a month now and my RA pain is worse since my doctor decided to take me off Plaquenil. My flares have increased, the joint pain and swelling are constant and I have very little desire to do anything. I've made adjustments to my work schedule and that is helping, but typing outside of work (I'm a writer) or knitting (Christmas gifts) causes more pain and discomfort.
And, does anybody know of additional resources for financial assistance with paying for this medication? The doctor gave me the first 30 days free, and will possibly give me a second month. If not, I don't know what I'm going to do.
It took my a full three months on Xeljanz to find relief and to be able to stop taking Celebrex twice daily. I take it twice daily, not the XR version, and my Rheumatologist did forewarn me that if it didn’t work within three months, I would have to change medications again. I also take 25mg of Methotrexate by injection once a week.
Pfizer does have a patient support program which includes financial assistance. If you’re in the US, the number to call is 1-844-935-5269. I found it by doing an internet search. Pfizer Canada has a similar program which can be found the same way.
Good luck, and I hope you find some relief very soon!

Hi, it didn't work right away for me either in the beginning. I take Naproxen 500 mg as needed when I have a flare. One good thing about Xeljanz is that I was able to get off the Methotrexate. Hang in there and lots of good wishes to you.
