Been having debilitating anxiety for the last 6 months. Crippling nausea, jitters and overall feeling of dizziness. Had all sorts of medical tests. Heart, endocrine, Gastro. All looked normal. I quit drinking alcohol and have tried all sorts of ADs. I’m on my 9th day of Paxil. First 7 days at 5mg and now 10mg. I seem to sleep better but the dreaded anxiety and nausea is still present. I take 1 mg ativan once or twice a day to manage. Curious if this path is common. Frustrating to say the least. Any advise? Thank you
How long before feeling Paxil kick in?

Hi, Trotter!
Yes, it's frustrating because we'd all love a medication that works overnight and gives 100% relief. But it just doesn't work that way.
"How Long Does It Take For Paroxetine To Work?
Sleep, energy, or appetite may show some improvement within the first 1-2 weeks. Improvement in these physical symptoms can be an important early signal that the medication is working. Depressed mood, anxiety, and lack of interest in activities may need up to 6-8 weeks to fully improve."
So the sign that you're sleeping better is a good one. Try to focus on the improvements that you will be feeling and try not to dwell on the negatives. Do things to help distract your mind... walks, reading, working out, hobbies, meditation, and so on.
Hang in there and you'll find that it's well worth your time and effort.
Best regards,
Wildcat
PS, Ask your pharmacist to recommend an OTC remedy for the nausea. There are quite a few and Pepto Bismol even makes an herbal preparation.
