I received a heart transplant 2 years ago. I'm on 2 meds which I HAVE to
take that can cause hair loss - prograf and prednisone. I also take lexapro,
hydrochlorothiazide, a statin and famotidine - all of which can also cause
hair loss. My hair is very thin. It doesn't fall out in clumps - it seems to be
a normal amount but it isn't growing back. I'm hoping to get off some things
that I may not absolutely need. My transplant team has no sympathy for me.
Is hair loss a side effect of Lexapro?

Hello Swaf. I agree with Rajive, its not common. I was taking lexapro for just under two years (30mg) and had no problem in regards to losing hair or also thinning. I really hope it doesn't become worse for you,
An infrequent side effect, hair loss has been known to occur in some people taking Lexapro. Between 1 in 100 and 1 in 1,000 people taking Lexapro experience this side effect.
If hair loss becomes a problem while you are taking Lexapro, talk with your doc. Depending on how severe the hair loss is, there are things that he or she may be able to do. It is possible that if hair loss becomes bothersome, your doctor may recommend adjusting the Lexapro dosage or trying another medicine for your condition.
Take care, best wishes!
