Hello kwgrl,
Give the medication time to settle in. You know what I realized over the years, is that we as human beings, sometimes can heal ourselves. HOW you might ask, by asking the inner self, why am I depressed. Once you are able to identify your reasons for depression, along with the assistance of the medication, you will be just fine.

Hi, kwgrl!
Two weeks in and at a low dose I wouldn't expect dramatic improvement and the fact that you're experiencing "up" times means that the Lexapro is starting to work. It takes time for your body to adjust to the drug and ups and downs are common. It can take 4-8 weeks to see the full benefits and you may be well on your way.
I'd say give it a little more time to see if this dose will work for you. 10mgs is the usual maintenance dose and some people need to increase as much as up to 20mgs but you may just find that the 5mgs is therapeutic for you.
It's good to stay in touch with your doctor with progress reports so you might just want to call and get their opinion.
