It's my understanding that levofloxacin used alone can cause CNS injury.
I was injured by levofloxacin without also taking ibuprofen or any other NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory). I had numbness and tingling all over my body, tendon pain, muscle cramping, brain wasn't working correctly. Many others have had worse outcomes by combining it with NSAIDs. It took several months for me to feel like I was healing, and a few yrs til I felt I was fully recovered. I still won't take NSAIDs or even use a topical steroid because I'm afraid it could still cause damage since it is suspected that Levofloxacin and other fluoroquinolone antibiotics cause DNA damage to some people. DNA damage is permanent as far as I know.
