I use to take propecia which I believe was 1mg, but stopped due to the cost. Now I am taking finasteride and was prescribed 5mg. I'm not sure if the dosage should be that high. Does anyone know the facts? :) Thank you!
I am taking finasteride for hairloss and my doctor put me on 5mg, is that okay?

The routine dosage of finasteride is 1mg/day. If your doctor has put you on 5mg then consult your doctor concerning the dosage.
i have used propecia for 10+ years and before that i had a pharmacy compound minoxidil until propecia was introduced. i am 66 and still have hair.
my dad was bald at 52 and my uncle, on my mothers side, was bald before he was 50. that all being said in the last six months i've been losing hair at an unacceptable rate to me. my dermotoligist's opinion is that propecia gives a man about 10 years beyond his due date with baldness. i have, by luck or by ... exceeded my dad's shiny head by 15 years. as to your specific question i have been cutting the finasteride into quarters so as to get closer to the 1mg propecia dosage. hope this helps
I assume you are still using it for hair loss.
The recommended dose for hair loss is 1mg. 5mg finasteride is usually given for treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia. Talk to your doctor, he/she may have a valid reason.
It is important you only take 1mg of finasteride for hair loss so you must split the pill into fourths. Essentially you will be taking 1.25mg of finasteride/day. I know many people who are doing it this method.
