Basically the doctor says Benadryl is better for anxiety and panic attacks and than Xanax. What a joke these doctors are these days, I have never in my life seen somebody freaking out with a panic attack and they said let's get them Benadryl.

"Known for its calming and mild sedative effects, hydroxyzine is effective to treat anxiety for patients. “Hydroxyzine is an antihistamine prescribed for the treatment of anxiety,” says board-certified surgeon Michael K. Newman, MD. “In a healthy adult, hydroxyzine is also used to effectively treat an acute aggravation of panic disorder.”
“Hydroxyzine works effectively for relieving panic attacks by significantly affecting two major chemicals in the human body, known as serotonin and histamine,” Clara Lawson, MD, explains.
Serotonin: “Serotonin is a chemical that controls mood,” Dr. Lawson says. “By efficiently interacting with this chemical, hydroxyzine relieves panic attacks and it is commonly used to treat generalized anxiety disorder.
Histamine: “And as an antihistamine, hydroxyzine treats allergy symptoms by blocking the effects caused by histamine and makes you drowsy, which is another way it deals with anxiety Dr. Lawson says."
Besides being effective, it's safe and not addictive like the benzodiazepines.
Sorry to say it doesn't work when I watched my wife and daughter die in my arms it messed me up I have panic attacks 15-20 times a day. I haven't even gone outside only for doctor appointments
I don't think Dr. Newton has help his wife and daughter in his arms as they took their last breath
I'm so very sorry about the loss of your family.
Everybody's different in their response to medications... I had severe PTSD panic attacks that responded very well to buspirone and hydroxyzine. Buspirone controlled the frequency and hydroxyzine immediately stopped breakthrough attacks.
Unfortunately, benzos aren't for me... working at a rehabilitation facility I watched too many benzo addicts try to withdraw. Many weren't even convinced that they were addicts because they took the medication as directed. It was far worse than H and meth withdrawals both physically and psychologically.
So basically keep taking the med I've been taking for a almost a year and maybe 5-6 year's from now now it will work. Great advice, all my doctor wants to give me is Seroquel and lots of it hundreds of pills, I guess the doctor is trying to tell me join my wife and child, when I the time Is right I will take all that Seroquel and join them. It's the doctors orders so I have to comply
Have you tried therapy? There's a treatment called CPT (Cognitive Processing Therapy) that's very effective in reducing symptoms of PTSD that have developed after experiencing a traumatic event.
It's something you might want to look into...
