I have not had rebound hypertension (I have stopped because of hypotension and I never had high blood pressure anyway) but it is mainly sweating and anxiety. The other side effects I had have gone away
How long does bisoprolol rebound last after stopping the medication?

May I ask why you were on this drug if you never had high blood pressure the common reason for prescribing a beta blocker. I take a low dose of atenolol which is also a beta blocker for an irregular heart beat. Was this a previous problemj for you? If so, why would you or your doctor want you to stop the med? Need more info in order to help. Sorry...
Thanks Mary for replying.
It is a bit of a long story! I was started on the bisoprolol beta blocker last September following an episode of acute pulmonary oedema that was thought to have accompanied a heart attack. I was on 1.25mg to start with and after Christmas my cardiologist said to double it up to 2.5 mg aiming for the 10 mg level that is recommended for this drug. However I began to feel unwell at the ends of January 2011. I had coldness and feelings of chills and shivering, nausea, headaches sometimes internal shaking trembling, creepy feelings in my arms and legs and just generally feeling ill. My GP in April thought that it might be the beta blocker and since my blood pressure had gone down to a resting one of 85/56 he suggested halving the dose back to 1.25mg which I did for a month. There was a little improvement and because the bp was still low and giving symptoms I was told to stop it altogether.
I think that I should have tapered this small dose but was not told to do so so I just stopped it the next day.
This was 7 weeks ago. Then straight away I started with sweating and my GP said this was rebound and that it might go on for a little while but also I started feeling anxious which I had not really felt before. However over these 7 weeks I have felt much better in myself no nausea or headaches and the coldness has gone too. But I now have aching arms and this trembling and creepy feelings in my arms and legs but not all of the time. Sometimes I feel completely “normal” but then all these things all come back!
I had an MRI scan of the heart done at Christmas and there was no evidence of any heart damage or anything wrong with the heart so a coronary has now been ruled out and the cause of my pulmonary oedema is still unknown but I did also have a UTI infection and sepsis at the same time and this could have affected my heart in another way perhaps. Even though I am off the beta blocker my resting bp is still low and has not changed. As I said before my blood pressure has never been high and I have never been on medication for high blood pressure in the past.
This is why I wanted to know about the rebound/withdrawal thing because I can't find much information on the web. I did read that it can take a while for the body to get used to a change in dose but I wanted to know what was "normal"?

That is kind of weird. I was up to a dose of 200mg of the atenolol because my heart rate had gotten so high. & had weird BP real high , real low, all over the place. They gave me every kind of BP you can think of non of them worked. What ever it was worked itself out as it is down to being a good low pressure with no meds except the atenolol of .25 mg. I tried to quit it too, but kept having the irregular heartbeat so went back on the atenolol. I have a mitral valve leak that the heart doctor suspects is involved, but said surgery won't help me. It's funny how we all act so different to medicine. I wish you all the best, & hope you figure it out. Maybe the symptoms will disappear as they did for me...
