Valtrex is an antiviral drug. It slows the growth and spread of the herpes virus so that the body can fight off the infection. Valtrex will not cure herpes, but it can lessen the symptoms of the infection.
Valtrex is used to treat infections caused by herpes viruses in adults and children. Illnesses caused by herpes viruses include genital herpes, cold sores, shingles, and chickenpox.
Valtrex is used to treat cold sores in children who are at least 12 years old, and to treat chickenpox in children who are at least 2 years old.

Generic Valtrex (valacyclovir) joins another herpes treatment, acyclovir (originally branded Zovirax), on the generic market. A third drug for herpes treatment, Famvir (famciclovir), it's not available as a generic drug.
Acyclovir (Zovirax) is effective, and its patent expired years ago, so its cost is usually low. The down side of this medication is that you must take it twice a day.
Valacyclovir (Valtrex) is also effective and relatively inexpensive. Its plus: You only have to take it once a day.
Famciclovir (Famvir) can still be quite expensive because it's not available as a generic drug.
Before you take any action see a Doctor in your case- Dermatologists and Infectious Disesase (ID) specialists. They will prescribe the dose required.
Never self medicate.
I do not know which company manufactures these meds... I do not have all the answers my friend.
Best of luck.
Just to correct the above, acyclovir needs to be taken five times a day and valacyclovir twice daily.
