Each iron salt (gluconate, sulfate, fumarate etc) contains a different amount of elemental iron depending on the salt used and its strength.
Ferrous gluconate 325 mg contains 38mg of elemental iron.

Fergon is a standardized pill that the doc can count on it having 325mg. Quite a few years ago now, they standardized the amount in iron tabs, because it was extremely confusing, as you can see. The pills a dr prescribes is sold as 325mg. Have you asked the pharmacist? He should be able to lead you to a supplement that is what your doctor wants.
