I can say I bled for 5 months straight 4 day long periods , and then I missed and thought I was a month pregnant and realized I was 6 so it's possible .
Not all clots or discoloration in blood is caused by implantation or birth control. Brown blood can indicate blood not released during your last cycle or most commonly a sign of blood clotting problems while menstrating. Check with your doctor but I'm pretty sure that you are perfectly healthy. Some also may experience clots if their period is shorter than others... For instance... My period only lasts four days maximum but I clot a lot because my body doesn't have time to break down the clots before the blood is released... But I say check with your doctor if anything they can tell you directly what is going on... Hope this helps and good luck!
You stupid people you can't have your periiod while your pregnant! If you do have your period while your pregnant you are not healthy go see a doctor dumbass
Yes you can actually. It's rare but my mom actually had her period full blown four months in with me and I'm fine she got her period at the right time every month she didn't know she was pregnant with me til 3 months and the doctor said she was fine and she may still get her period and she did for one more month then it stopped. Please don't call people names if you don't know what ur talking about.
Ok I'm 25yrs old, had unprotected sex with my partner the 24th of September, expected period around the 27th of September. I took the morning after pill the day after sex within the 24hr time frame. On the 29 of September I started to experience dark brown discharge which wld be around my period time. Could this be side effect or sign of pregnancy? Please reply. Thanks
How rude and insensitive... 25 years ago I gave birth to a beautiful son. Pre my sons birth I had my usual 28 day cycle. I went to the doctors ,only because I was tired, no other reason, only to be told after an examination that I was pregnant, at-least 12 weeks. I had not idea as I was taking contraception. I had one more period (as I thought)
While in labor; I was told my waters had broke by a lovely midwife. she explained to me how she new; only to be told by the doctor that they had not.
After giving birth to my son, the next day I was told by the doctor that there was another sack (baby bag) carrying twins. Tho not identical because of the separate sacks. Young/middle age naive people don't need to hear insensitive comments/remarks. My son had a twin. I thought it was a period, you should not comment with words like this! I can only imagine that that someone, somewhere may have had a menstrual cycle through their pregnancy. You Don't Know.
regards
You're an idiot. Just so you know
I'm sorry but i'm pretty sure your comment wasn't necessary at all. Other than making you look like a dickhead. Also i knows this comment was written a long time ago but you are disgusting human being, people aren't stupid to have been asking questions, so plz in future don't comment if you aren't going to be nice or helpful.
Your a mean girl!
How are any of these girls suppose to just know these answers if not taught by someone?
The worst thing that anyone can do is make them feel uncomfortable for asking questions when they don’t know who else to ask‼️
This honestly sounds like a normal period to me. As long as you're taking your pills correctly you don't (shouldn't) ovulate. Even if its brown if you're bleeding like that you most likely aren't pregnant! As Kaismama said, bleeding is not a sign of pregnancy. Hope this eases your mind a little, take care :)
I am a virgin and have been on birth control for several years now because of medical reasons. I have dark brown bleeding during many of my periods so I guarantee you I am not pregnant.
Do u mind me asking how light your flows are? Cause I'm very used to heavy periods and I've been Orsythia(combination pill) for about 3 months and my last month was very dark and very light and started a day late and I think lasted like 6 days or shorter cause it was just brown and I didn't know if I could count that as a period day and this month i had brown discharge a week before the placebo week and I think I started my period 2 days before the placebo week cause I was getting bad cramps and I saw some blood but it turned brown fast and it's light is this normal? Have u experienced this? Sorry for the details im just scared cause I'm sexually active and I'm only 16 and I'm thinking its pregnancy

I am also on that BC and i have the same symptoms, it may have something to do with how thin your uterine lining is and that is causing it to turn brown and expel very lightly/slowly. Idk about the brown discharge but im really happy to know im not the only one. I will still have to make an appt with my GYN and make sure. You could do the same too.
I have been on and off of birth control since I was about 14. I am now 24 and just had the same problems you did with my last cycle. My obgyn told me that from the very first time I start (12 years) until I turn 26, that I can have this. I think she called it irregular bleeding. And I know it's scary, trust me, I've even felt really sick because my clots were the size of dimes. She said as long as they don't get the size of an "apple" then I'm ok. They should decrease in size by your third pack. And if not, you might want to call your obgyn and see what they suggest. They might put you on a different birth control. Good luck! And I hope this helps!!
Implantation bleeding may be much different than a period and almost always is. Large clots are often normal but if you feel that something isn't right because "you just know", the pain, or the flow, definitely get another opinion. Like I said in another comment, nurses don't know everything and doctors can often overlook. Second opinions are never a bad idea.
Implantation bleeding is very rare (AND I think it is a BS term for when docs cant explain why you have a bit of light spotting in early pregnancy) Implantation bleeding would just be very light spotting not even lasting a full day. There wouldnt be dark blood or any clots and it wouldnt last long. You are just having your period. Sometimes withdrawal bleeds are earlier. Your period may not come on the same day and sometimes it may come before your inert pills. It is nothing to worry over as long as you are taking pills correctly. You DO NOT OVULATE while you are taking the Pill. If you dont ovulate, you cant get pregnant even if sperm was pumped into you night and day! No egg=no baby! Bleeding is NOT a sign of pregnancy-not a normal one anyway! I'd love to know what web site is telling you girls that bleeding means pregnancy. In all my 25+ years of nursing, I have never even heard of someone having implantation bleeding.
You can add my 50 yrs to that, I never did either. Nor have I ever known anyone who experienced it.
Hi there, i am having a similar problem here. I had sex about 14 days ago. It was unprotected sex, although I am 1000% sure he didnt cum inside me. But 3 days ago was my period date and i started seeing brown discharge with really small clots and stuff. I thought it would be old blood but its been three days and i am seeing the same dark brown-almost blood color discharge. Also i am having period like cramps. Do you think i might be pregnant ? Please help, any sort of comment will be appreciated.Thank you
I had a daughter and I had my period or what ever you wanna call it for 3 or 4 months before i found out i was pregnate with my daughter thats now 3 n yes it was like a totally normal period... so whats up with that?
no but i am actually on my period right now hahaha so its all alright
It is a fact that one out of four pregnant women experiences mild vaginal bleeding in their first week (that is also referred to as implantation bleeding and occurs because fertilized egg is being implanted in the uterine lining). This brown spotting is considered normal but in some cases it can be a symptom of a likely problem, so if you are experiencing moderate amount of bleeding, speak to your healthcare provider for further course of management.
I had implantation bleeding both times.
I totally agree that implantation bleeding is rare, but it does happen. I had implantation bleeding with my last pregnancy that was similar to OPs. However, it did end up being ectopic and later ruptured.. which could have had something to do with it.
I got pregnant on birth control and was bleeding every month regular bleeding so what does that mean then all the doctor can say was maybe I missed a pill I was on the deposit shot never missed it a day when I was to get it . No birth control is 100 percent if u take it correctly you still have that 1 percent chance of getting pregnant
Bleeding is normal during pregnancy in first few months. With my oldest son I had a normal period for the first 4 months and then with my second I had a normal period throw out my whole pregnancy. And with the last one I bleed for the first 3 months before I know I was even pregnant. A and it wasn't spotting it was full blown period.
25+ years of nursing means squat if your knowledge is incorrect. You most certainly DO ovulate while on the pill, otherwise there would be no question of effectiveness, and we all know the pill is NOT 100%, even when taken correctly. The pill does NOT stop ovulation, but rather puts preventive measures in place to stop an implantation, should an egg become fertilized, which is possible because you do still release eggs. To even say something like "you can't get pregnant, even if sperm was pumped into you day & night" makes me question your ability to care for others and to give medical advice. That's one of the most ignorant comments I've heard from a supposed nurse of apparently 25+ years. YOU CAN GET PREGNANT ON THE PILL. AND ON THE DEPO SHOT. Just ask my son, who was conceived while on the pill (which was being taken correctly). Or my cousin's child, who was conceived while on the DepoProvera shot. How exactly would you explain that?
This is kind of happening to me. You are a nurse right?
Just came across this post and for you to be a nurse for more than 25 years I would hate to have to see you in the office. It IS possible to have implantation bleeding. Also light spotting during the first trimester can occur from having low progesterone levels. You must not be an ob/gyn nurse or you would know that. EVERYONE'S body is different and for you to tell someone that it can't happen is just wrong and you shouldn't give medical advice on this site!!!
I was on the pill and fell pregnant with my second son and still had periods found out i was 8 mths when i felt a lick
Ok I have to comment and just need to make it clear that you can still ovulate on birth control. I've had 7 total pregnancies (3 full term, 1 stillbirth and 3 miscarriages). 5 were on birth control (patch, pill, IUD) AND to top it all off... I still had a full blown period on almost every single pregnancy until I finally hit the third to fifth month of pregnancy. I would never say again that something can't happen just because I've never heard of it before. Nurses and doctors still do not believe my story on pregnancy until they've seen my chart. Not too mention the several other oddities that happened during my pregnancies. I am living proof that anything is possible.
Also, I have a friend who had 3 full term, 3 tubal pregnancies and one after her tubes were tied. Just saying.
For the ones saying you can't get pregnant on bc, my boyfriend's mother was on bc when she became pregnant with him. My uncle was also conceived on bc.
That's funny!!! I have had 5 children while on 5 different forms of birth control... that I took faithfully!!! Each birth they changed my birth control to a higher level. But I guess that's impossible if there's no ovulation!! Wait... doesn't that mean that birth control should be 100% effective? No ovulation means no conception... hmm. I'm glad those without medical degrees have such certainty in how medications work. Maybe if I would've had them for friends I would've understood that I couldn't get pregnant while taking my birth control. I'm sure that's how it works
I am really tired of hearing about implantation bleeding. Its not common. Bleeding is NOT a sign of pregnancy. You are on birth control, you do not ovulate, there is no chance of implantation. Your just having some effects from the hormone of the pill.
Kaismama can I just say yes you can get pregnant while on birth control... I did I had a very bad flu while on the pill and was sick so the pill I was using at the time did not stay in my system and I got pregnant shock at the start of finding out I was pregnant but I would not change a thing I had a beautiful child and best thing in life xx also if your on another antibiotic it can drown the pill... So things like this does happen I never trusted the pill after that.
And I am tired of hearing this misconception.. Birth control does not stop you from ovulating.. Otherwise you wouldn't even have a period while on it. Birth control creates a hostile environment for a fertilized egg to attach and survive in so that you don't get pregnant. That is also why there is room for birth control to fail.
You can get pregnant while on birth control... I got pregnant after being on the pill for two years... I took them daily like I was supposed too... I also had light periods of bleeding while I was pregnant... five times to be exact... everyone's body reacts differently to pregnancy so please learn facts before making statements... oh and by the way, I'm a RN...

The reason why most healthcare providers do not know is because most women don't even notice it. It is very possible and only in certain cases should you worry. Don't stress out though until you see your doctor and learn the truth; it could just be old blood.

Most women just don't notice it unless they notice it by wiping perhaps and often don't even mention it to their doctor. No matter how long someone has been a nurse, who by the way, doesn't know everything, or a doctor, all cases are different. All pregnancies as well.
Actually it takes people to get on birth control to get pregnant! So don't sit there and say she don't ovulate. You don't know her body.
You definitely ovulate while on birth control. Even if you are on a type of birth control that doesn't give you a period, you still ovulate. Bleeding can be a scary thing if you are young and unaware of certain things. There is complete chance of implantation on birth control. Nothing is 100%.
First, that's a really rude and condescending way to respond to someone. Second, I bled during all 3 of my pregnancies. Two had implantation discharge and one I bled bright red for about 2-3 weeks because I had low progestin levels. You can't tell someone else how their body responds to pregnancy.
This is false information. I’ve had implantation bleeding with both of my children (it is my first indicator of pregnancy)
Also, my aunty fell pregnant with all 4 of her children while on the pill. Please research your information before misleading people!!
Don’t answer questions if you’re going to be rude and bothered just because it’s not common doesn’t mean it can’t happen and doesn’t happen every woman’s body is different
