I have received my RX for Paxil 10 mg. I have not stared it just yet I'm a little nervous to honest. Can anyone tell me what to expect ? Also my doctor told me that 10 mg is to start me off I guess that is a small dosage? What will I feel like once I have taken it for a while. The reason the doctor prescribed this is for my anxiety and depression. I can't seem to stop worrying about every little thing. I get so worked up over things most people don't even think about. I have a hard time enjoying anything around me. I have a wonderful family and friends I'm not in debt at all. Just cant seem to get it to click to enjoy my life.
What should I expect when I start taking Paxil?

I take 5 mg and that works for me. I break the 10 mg in half. I would stay at the most effective dose that helps you and start slowly.
Deb I just started taking 5 mg Paxil 5 days ago and not feeling any anxiety relief yet . I had been on 2 mg Valium 2-3 times a day and taper off of that at same time . Doc was not too compassionate about the Valium taper - I think it may be too quick cause he is cutting dodge to 1 x a day . I had a cancer diagnosis , that was why I had started taking the Valium . When did you get relief from the Paxil finally ?
Hi:), me too..day 7, are u having like jittery side effects?, does that go away..Im switching to taking it at night, ty:)
I feel nothing... no side effects... still just as anxiety ridden and extremely depressed... same as before the med. I have been on it for 2 months. I was taken off xanax... still on lexapro and added mirtazapine. I need the xanax again but these doctors will not prescribe it anymore.
Paxil is a very mild form of control so much so that any effects will take about 3 weeks after you start taking them. I can honestly say since taking this drug I am much calmer. I manage a stressful situation that in the past I would become extremely rageful, now it just washes over and I don't react. I am not lethargic very alert but just in control all the time. I have PTSD and this drug saved my life.
I started taking Paxil 10mg after talking with a friend who is in the medical field. He said it was non habit forming and i pray that is true. He cautioned me about early symptoms of being jittery and he was right about that, but that didn't seem to last long
In fact the first night i took it i remember feeling so wired it was scary, the next night seemed better, then better. I don't know if I'm an odd case but i am already feeling more positive by the end of week one, which seems impossible, because i can't describe how depressed and anxious i had become, so I'm hopeful.
And i have tried just about everything in the past without much success. Hopeful hopeful. Hope it works for you
I just started taking Paxil And all I can say is I'm having hot flashes nausea and I just don't feel right shaking inside my body ... my doctor said to keep taking it and needs to get in my system for at least a week oh and I forgot to mention how tired I am during the day and that's hard for me because I have a 10-month-old baby I have to take care of
These are *standard* side effects for a few people, but the good news is that within a few days to a week or so you will be right as rain. It's just your body adjusting to the medication and it's perfectly normal.
Best regards and a belated congratulations, Mom.
How long after you took the paxil did these side effects start? Im having same effects. Hot flashes, nausea, shaking, and gas. I have IBS and wondering if the paxil is irritating it. I took 10mg about 7 hrs ago. Im very sensitive to these kind of meds but i took paxil 9 yrs ago for a short time and it worked great but i know i had side effects but can't remember how bad they were. Thank you
That's exactly how I felt and I was only taking 5 mg. I am highly sensitive to these medications so they are effective at that dose for me.
The Dr started me out 20mg of paxil but I feel nothing. I mean emotionally nothing does anyone know if that is normal and if it is how long will it last?
This is a long term drug, you'll be on it for the rest of your life. I was on it for 20 years. It is incredibly hard to get off of. Having said that. You won't feel much at all on 10mg. It takes a couple weeks to build up in your system.
When the paxil does kick it what can I expect to feel? I DO NOT like the high feeling that some med's might give. I really just want the feeling of always feeling down and anxiety to go away. Can anyone compare the way it makes you feel to anything eles?
Hi just wondering how it went when you started packed so I used it three years ago when I had no problems but I'm kind of scared this time around and it's because I had an adverse drug reaction last summer.. I only was on it for a couple of months before I don't know why some people are saying you'll be on it forever I'm sure that's not the case unless you just want to be but anyway how did it go for you??
I forgot to mention the adverse drug reaction was to Celexa they gave me at I took it that night and the next day I had to go to the ER. Basically it was too much at once so I decided to try it without medicine while I've been doing that for nine months and now I'm back to I need to try medicine but I'm scared now
Hello Amgmatt,
At first when you take Paxil, you might feel a little nauseous. A good way to help prevent that feeling is to break up your starting dose a little. With the 10mg a day, I would say break it in half and take 5mg at breakfast and 5mg at dinner for the first couple days. Taking it in a smaller dose and along with a meal will help prevent side effects. After you've been on it for a few days you can go to 10mg at one time with food, and you should be fine. After you have been on it for a few weeks you will start feeling better and hopefully it will help with your anxiety with no more worrying. I am not sure of the highest dose of paxil, but I think it is 20 mg.
I hope all works out for you,
pamee
Paxil max dose is actually 40mg. I take that along with Abilify, Buspar snd Cymbalta. Talk about scared!
But not to worry, you should be just fine! Good luck!
Nice to know it is 40 mg ... thank you
My sister takes it n she's on 40mg
Actually max dose is 80
