Hi friends, I think I've dislocated my jaw! I see singing cowboy dentist at 4 today. My heart is beating very fast, is that normal?
I thank all of my drugs.com family!

I've been suffering from a torn meniscus for three months now. I need the surgery, my cardiologist won't clear me for it because of an accelerated heart rate. i Maintain the heart rate is caused by the intense pain due to the three meniscus tears. I use Vicodin (7.5/300) and Lidocaine patch(0.5 %) for pain control. I've noticed that when I remove the patch in the morning my resting heart rate goes from 70 BPM to over 90 BPM in an hour or so. I've been tracking the changes for a couple of weeks now and will present to my heart guy on July 5...
Of course, just like when I was admitted into ER for severe abdominal pain, my heart rate was up, blood pressure high ( I never have high blood pressure) and nurses said it was because I was uncomfortable and in pain. Especially anything with anxiety and panic attacks, your heart rate will rise.
sorry about your jaw. of course, as the others said it will cause your heart to beat faster. if your dentist gives u any shots of anesthia in your mouth, they may cause rapid heartbeat as well.
Hope your feeling better by now, as you know I,m the one that has Trigeminal Neuralgia since last year, tryed 3 precriptions, but none helped the pain. I went to Heart Specialist & everything was o.k. with my heart just pain can mess your stress level high! My teeth feel like they are moving, & get pain thu them as well, my dentist did x-rays all was good, just part of this T. N. that I have anyone out there that has what I have lets talk about it as pain is very streesfull. Nana Dallas

yes sir rie, intense pain will raise your blood pressure and your heart beat faster. Make sure you tell your dentist what you are experiencing also.
Yes I know it does - my heart pounds rapidly when I am in pain and my Dr. told me my blood pressure goes up so high that I need to take a pill for it. Hang in there and try to relax. I thought I was having panic attacks alot and I think it is something related to mitral valve prolapse that makes my heart feel like that - I am a nervous wreck all the time but now I feel like it is O.K. Let us know what happens. K
How in the world did that happen? It sounds tremendously painful and enough to cause a major panic attack, that would certainly get your heart beating faster. Are you sure it's the dentist and not the Dr. you should be seeing? I'm sure he will help you, one way or another, let us know what the outcome is and now that it's so much later than when you first wrote, hopefully you are back to "normal" by now? I hope so, sending you good thoughts sweets, TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF. xxoo Dede
Thanks Dede, and thanks to all of you.
Dentist shoved his thumb in my mouth... thought I'd pass out, or bite his thumb off. He doesn't know what caused this, and neither do I.
Motrin and a few Vicodin.
As we Irish say "it could be worse"!!!
xoxoxo

Yes, it will not only increase your heart beat but your blood pressure increases too. If the pain is much more than you have experienced in the past, watch it close. It could be something you have no idea of.
aww poor sweetlemon.I am sorry about your jaw.I hope it will be alright. The answer to your question is yes.The more pain your in the faster your heart is beating to try and alieve that pain.So yes!!!
Thank you arc!
try a hot compress or a heating pad on the side of your face,as hot as you can stand it. dont burn yourself, sounds like your gonna need a antibiotic to take some of the swelling down.let me know how things go... im goin to send you psychic healing all the way from my bedroom here in southampton pa. get ready here it comes. oooooooommmmm ooooooooommmmmm
I am positive it makes your heart beat faster! I think it is pretty common with most pain, even when I had my car accident, I kept telling the paramedics I could walk. Even told them to let me. Of course, my torn up mess of a foot proved I couldn't put an ounce of pressure on it. I really hope your tooth feels better. My question to you... "is a singing cowboy dentist normal? LOL! Fall Queen
fall queen, you made me laugh, and it hurts to laugh!!

hi sweetlem, hope you start to feel better soon.and yes pain def does cause heart rate to clime.try to focus on slowing your breathing,in through your nose out through your mouth. keep telling yourself that your pain will pass.try swishing warm saltwater around inside your mouth.try soft music also.hope you feel better soon little sister.let us know how things go for you today...
Thank you dearest Pete, but cannot open mouth enough to swish salt water.
The pain is on mandibular joint by ear.
This sucks buddy!!!
Pain sensation is carried by lateral spinothalamic tract to the higher centres of brain(post central gyrus). From here the neurons connect to the Vasomotor centre and Dorsal nucleus of vagus to cause tachycardia(inc. heart rate ) if pain is superficial.
Thanks to all who answered. I am calm, but this pain is quite intense!
Can't even talk... husband is thrilled! Ha

HEY i answer in that way because i am a medical student.
Sorry for inconvinience.
Chaman, I appreciate your answer! Thanks.
I would rather give birth to triplets than have a root canal, to answer your question, yup~ pain, along with the antisipation of not knowing what is going to happen when you get to the dentist will cause a rapid heart beat from the stress alone, if you're in pain that also will add the stress, take a deep breath, try to calm yourself down, let the assistant know you're feeling stressed she will also help you. Good Luck at the Dentist. I hope you're soon feeling better.
Pain will cause your heart to beat faster, anything that causes stress to you or your body will have this effect!
Hope you will be ok, good luck!
