Since about May of this year, I have had pretty much constant constipation, in the fact that I have had 8 goLytely colon clean outs, many enema's, and one colonoscopy in late July. I am currently taking miralax everyday 2-3 times a day prescribed by my GI, as well as a constipated med called linzess. I literally get backed up every couple of weeks, and I do everything right, excersize, fiber, etc. Whenever I get constipated, the xray usually shows stool clogged at the bottom of the colon. My stools are always thin and ribbon like, but ive had a colonoscopy which looked clear. My GI thinks it may be something called colonic inertia, but I'm not sure. Im desperate. Im only a 20 year old male and I would appreciate any feedback!
Constipation keeps coming back?

I had chronic constipation for 90% of my life to the point where nothing worked! I could go for an entire month without relief. I was finally diagnosed with pan colonic inertia and was told an illeostomy was my solution. Back then laxatives were considered bad to use and may have caused my problem. I was only 39 yrs old and got a second opinion who advised I do a J pouch instead of complete illeostomy. My surgeon said yeah we can do that but I will more than likely be going in my pants and she wouldn't be able to do anything for at least 6 months. I chose the ileostomy and was the worst thing I've ever done. If I had chose the J pouch with all the medical technology these days I would have been okay. Now my problem is with an ileostomy I actually have to be very careful about what I eat or I get blockages and end up in the hospital in severe pain with tubes into my stomach until it passes. I guess what I'm saying is if laxatives work just keep using them. They're saying nowadays that they don't do the harm that they thought they did. Research all avenues that you can go before you make a decision. And I would suggest getting several opinions.
Have you tried taking Mineral Oil??? When you get constipated. Have they looked higher up in the intestines i.e. small intestines. Have they looked on the outside of the intestines to see if anything or growth is impinging on it. I assume CAT scans were done. Are you located near any major hospitals to see top GI specialists . Look on the Internet or call the Gastrointestinal dept of major medical universities ( Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, etc... )around the country to see specialist who has done the most research in colonic inertia and make an appointment to see them. They can tell you for sure of the diagnosis and treatment options.
Thanks for your suggestions! They have not looked at the outside of the intestines, I'm not sure how that's done. I'm from Colorado and we see a really good gastroenterologist here and we have a plan kind of on next steps, but if we don't get any real answers in a month, I will probably be calling somewhere like the Cleveland or mayo clinic
I have had a CT scan when I was very constipated and it showed a little distention of the colon, but that was a month ago
Have ever had surgery in the past or trauma like a bad fall in the abdomen area. Is it possible you developed scar tissue in the section of the colon from such? Could there be neurological impairment where your intestines backup some sections of bowel fall asleep. What concerns me is your description of flat stools. That usually is an indication of an obstructed bowel through a kinked section or a growth preventing passage. I definitely get another specialist to look at this because of the flat stools
Mri was clear and had no surgeries or injuries
