I have been taking 200 mg Lamictal or Lamitrogine since 2006. I had been taking it with 2 mg if Haldol orally until recently. My doctor started giving it to me in a 50 milligram injection e
every 30 days. I have just learned Lamictal has a black box warning of death. I learned that haldol and lamictal has a deadly interaction and can cause death. Please confirm this with as much informaton including legal action to take.
Will the combination of Lamictal and Haldol cause me to die soon?

My diagnosis was Mood Adjustment Disorder and then was Bipolar. The Haldol was prescribed in a 1 mg dose to prevent emotional issues. After speaking with my doctor I am now starting on Seroquel. Cutting out the haldol and the lamictal. Although I am highly functional and employed my full time reading my doctors prognosis gives me the notion I am severely disabled.
"Interactions between your drugs

haloperidol lamotrigine
Applies to: Haldol (haloperidol), Lamictal (lamotrigine)
Using haloperidol together with lamoTRIgine may increase side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, and difficulty concentrating. Some people, especially the elderly, may also experience impairment in thinking, judgment, and motor coordination. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with these medications. Also avoid activities requiring mental alertness such as driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medications affect you. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor."
If your doctor is familiar with you and your medical history I would trust her/his professional assessment as this is a benefit ~vs~ risk situation where the benefit has most likely been judged to outweigh the slight risk of initial side effects.
No, you won't die. Yet prolonged usage of Haldol can make you torpid and lackadaisical, and the condition is not likely to be reversible. Normally the doc won't prescribe Haldol unless you are suffering from dementia or you are schizophrenic.
I only was getting a 1 mg dosage to help with emotional issues. My diagnosis was mood adjustment disorder then Bipolar. I have the mental illness and i just deal with it. I take the medications and I enjoy life. Whatever i am labeled as is really immaterial.
ELIZ; NO THESE MEDICATION ARE USED VERY COMMON TOGETHER, AND JUST HAVE A MODERATE INTERACTION WHICH IS ONLY TELLING THE DOCTOR TO LOOK OUT FOR. aS FAR AS ANY BLACK BOX WARNING, THERE IS NOTHING THAT I CAN FIND EXCEPT FOR CHILDREN YOU SHOULD HAVE A TALK WITH YOUR DOCTOR. And double check where you are getting your information. Chuck1957 here is a copy of the INTERACTION BETWEEN THE 2 MEDICATIONS AND NOTHING ENOUGH FOR A PATIENT TO WORRY ABOUT.(((( Moderate
haloperidol lamotrigine
Applies to: Haldol Decanoate (haloperidol), Lamictal (lamotrigine)
MONITOR: Central nervous system- and/or respiratory-depressant effects may be additively or synergistically increased in patients taking multiple drugs that cause these effects, especially in elderly or debilitated patients.
MANAGEMENT: During concomitant use of these drugs, patients should be monitored for potentially excessive or prolonged CNS and respiratory depression. Cautious dosage titration may be required, particularly at treatment initiation. Ambulatory patients should be counseled to avoid hazardous activities requiring mental alertness and motor coordination until they know how these agents affect them, and to notify their physician if they experience excessive or prolonged CNS effects that interfere with their normal activities.))) this info comes from drugs.com and webmd. no need to check any further other than your doctor.
