... denied anything is wrong her entire life, but she definitely goes thru the manic/mania stages like bipolar disorder. We can't seem to find the right combination to help with the dementia and stabilize her mood but also get her to lay down and go to sleep. When she doesn't sleep for days it is even harder to communicate with her and she can become quite nasty. She recently was started on aricept but it keeps her up and the only things that have gotten her to lay down is seroquel 25mg with a 6mg melatonin and then that doesn't work every single time. The are many medications that can be used in combination with others, but it must be definitely be a specialist, a Psychiatrist to determine which is the best combination for her.
There are many antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, sedatives/hypnotics, but as I mentioned the trial and error period must be done by a Psychiatrist.
Besides what may work wonders for somebody doesn't necessarily mean it will work in the same manner for someone else as every organism is unique and reacts to medications and in general differently to everything in life.
