When a person is on Eliquis (Apixaban) what is the safest antidepressant? My friend is suffering from depression following a recent stroke and has been on Apixaban for several years due to a previous blood clot in his leg. His doctor prescribed Effexor, but I have heard that shouldn’t be used with a blood thinner. What other “safer” direction can you go?
Best antidepressant to use when on Eliquis?

It seems that bleeding/bruising could be a potential side effect of the most commonly prescribed antidepressants with the possible exception of the older tricyclic medications like Elavil and Tofranil.
The risk is very small and the doctor may have determined that the benefit outweighs the risk.
I think they should probably follow the doctor's orders.
