After operation for the treatment of necrotic wound with abscess on my right hip area, I was given an antibiotic, cefuroxime 500mg. After two days, I was given prescription for another antibiotic, clindamycin 300mg. Reason given was that the results of the bacteria culture was not yet completed.
Is it ok to take two antibiotics for the same condition?

Depending on the severity of the your condition, your doctor can prescribe two antibiotics for you.
This is a common practice with severe infections. The docs are just covering all their bases. Antibiotics work for different bacteria, and if they don't know yet what it is, they have to cover a broad spectrum.
Thank you. That was quite comforting. At least I can assume there is no risk of antibiotic overdose!
Its nice to read its ok to take two antibiotics for the same problem..
This is great to know. If I've already taken the initial antibiotic 2 times today as prescribed, can I get the new one and start taking it tonight or should I wait until tomorrow. I just want to get better.
