My daughter has been on this for 7 days and we just noticed today that the bottle says to refrigirate. I called the pharmacist and she could not tell me why it has to be refrigirated.
Amoxicillin/Clavulanate - How important is it to refrigirate the liquid form of this medicine?

Amoxicillin/Clavulanate needs to be refrigerated because it is unstable to heat. In heat the medicine can deteriorate quickly and lose its potency making it less effective in killing bacteria. How is your daughter? If her infection has not cleared call your doctor again - you may need another course of antibiotic.
Thank you for your response. My daughter is definitely better since taking the medicine. It seems to have worked so far. We never refrigirated the medicine before today, so it has been at room temperature since we got it 7 days ago and our house temperature has been around 68 degrees. To be safe, I'm going to call her pediatrician tomorrow to see what she thinks.
If it is liquid it probably needs to be refrigerated. But it might not be completely vital, but just to be sure...
If the drug has any odd splotches or spots I would avoid it. Also if is has a bad smell.
I would have them checked out for abnormalities by your pharmacist or doctor, if you has his number it would be best to call him and double check.
