I was prescribed a 5 day course of metronidazole, but I haven’t started it yet. This is because I noticed that all guides to the antibiotics state not to consume alcohol during and ~3 days after treatment. However, I have seen nothing on alcohol BEFORE starting treatment. How long after drinking alcohol should I wait to start the course?
Alcohol before starting metronidazole?

Metronidazole/alcohol and most other antibiotics/alcohol are two totally different things. They typically say alcohol reduces the effectiveness of antibiotics, with metronidazole you want to avoid alcohol at all levels even using mouthwash containing alcohol. It can cause severe vomiting. I would make sure there is no alcohol in your system before you start taking metronidazole. I would look up the half life of alcohol and calculate based on qty consumed, body weight, age, empty stomach or not, oz/ per hour, etc I would ask myself do I really need to drink alcohol at all before I start my treatment? Depending on the actual treatment and the reason for it? You might just wait on that drink? What's 5 days? I am now going to refer you to your pharmacist and ask them about alcohol. They should talk to you about anyways when you fill it. Besides that I'm not a pharmacist what do I know?
See metronidazole prescribing info on this site... box warning etc. Please look it up! Unless you have already found out...
