Hospitalized with Stevens Johnson Syndrome acquired from taking Bactrim for sinus infection. Also, NOW very allergic to penicillin. Drs differ in opinions whether flu vaccine is advisable.
Would it be advisable to have the flu vaccine since had Stevens Johnson Syndrome 1 yr ago?

Any medication can cause SJ Syndrome and/or Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis. Sulfa-based meds are known causes, as are vancomycin and Lamictal. The flu vaccination is not related to the SJ spectrum. Make absolutely CERTAIN that the meds that have already triggered SJ are written on the first page of your files. A Medic Alert bracelet or the like would be good. I write this because if you are ever given one of these meds again, you could easily die, according to current research.
I'm allergic to penicillin and I get it every year. There is no contraindication for either of your problems, just if you're allergic to eggs or have had an allergic reaction to flu shots before. SJ syndrome is possible from it however. The fact that there are no sulfonamides in it, might mean that you only do it from sulfonamides but I can understand why some docs are cautious about it. I would say its up to you. If you are out in the public getting near people who give you the flu, its different then if you don't go out much. I get mine because I had flu a few years ago and combined with fibromyalgia I thought I was going to die from the pain.
Thank u sooo much for your thoughts!!
